"Just save more"

But retiring early the right way takes work:

- Healthcare strategy
- Income plan
- Tax situation
- Protection

"Save more" is fine advice if you want to spend a few more years earning money you don't need.

1) Run the numbers
- What do you need beyond your social security/pension?
- What's your annual withdrawal rate?
- How much per year on travel?
- Can your money last you 30+ years?

2) Be protected
- What happens if the market crashes 30%?
- Will an extended stay at a care facility drain your net worth?

3) Confirm health insurance

Retirement is often the death of identity.

You spend 30+ years as a nurse or a chemical operator or a business owner...

And then you're just a person with a lot of free time.

After 34 years and 1,000+ retirements, this is unquestionably the most overlooked problem people spend next to no time planning for.

You can save a million more than you need. You can obsess about numbers and stocks. You do what you want for 6 months or a year.

And eventually it hits you that that a life of full-time leisure leaves you unsatisfied.

If you're retiring in the next 5 years and haven't figured this part out yet, start now.

Teens who eat dinner with their family regularly are 2x less likely to become alcoholics and 3x less likely to use drugs.

We can coordinate the greatest estate plan in history and do all the right planning to maximize your legacy for generations...

And none of it matters if you don't show up for your family and give them your time.

Don't make a habit of missing time for more "important" things.

That dinner with your family is the most important meeting you'll have.

Marc completed the Leadership Portsmouth program in 1994, and now Eli has followed suit, recently completing this year’s final session.

Leadership Portsmouth has been a valuable resource for professionals in our area for decades.

Our Leadership Portsmouth class gathered at the Endeavor Center in Piketon for an insightful session hosted by OhioSE. These area leaders are deepening their connections, expanding their perspective on regional economic development, and building the skills our community needs to thrive.

117 meetings so far in 2026 at our practice. The top concerns that keep coming up?

1) Tax planning with the One Big Beautiful Bill

Increased SALT deduction. Real estate purchases. Using the new senior deduction while it lasts. New rules on charitable giving.

2) Downside risk planning

Markets are on a stellar 3-year run. People want to keep what they've earned.

Solutions are out there to address this while maintaining upside if things keep going.

3) Life changes

Many 6/30 and 12/31 retirements are reviewed in January. This is their year, as they tell us, prompting a desire to meet.

Some had kids or grandkids recently and wanted to talk multi-generational impact.

Several have already dealt with the passing of someone close, triggering estate planning conversations.

Sifting through tax weeds. Planning through uncertainty. Holding a hand through heartbreak.

These aren't easy conversations, but they're exactly why we do this.

The path to millions has very little to do with return.

It almost entirely has to do with when you start.

Starting early is literally worth millions.

If you are under 40, stop worrying about investment returns.

A 20% return on $10,000 is $2,000.
A 4% return on $100,000 is $4,000.

The math tells you where you should invest your time.

So many young people wear themselves out trying to beat the market - thinking it will help them achieve financial independence sooner.

What if that time was instead dedicated to:

- Learning a new skill
- Earning a new certification
- Developing relationships that could lead to opportunities
- Adding a second income stream

When you're young, finding a way to increase your income - and thus increase what you save - is far more impactful than beating the market.
