Haul-out season is coming, and your boat’s coverage should change right along with it.

Once your boat comes out of the water, switching to lay-up coverage is worth doing immediately, not weeks later. It can actually lower your premium during the off-season. Worth also checking coverage during the actual haul and transport, and confirming your storage setup is covered properly, since indoor, outdoor, and marina storage aren’t all treated the same.

Own a condo? Here are 5 things worth knowing about your coverage.

Your association’s master policy usually covers the building’s shared structure, but what happens inside your own unit is typically on you. That’s where walls-in coverage comes in, covering things like floors, cabinets, and fixtures. Loss assessment coverage matters too, since a large shared expense can get billed to individual owners. And “the building is insured” doesn’t mean you personally are, that’s one of the most common assumptions we see.

New driver heading back to school this year? A few things worth handling before the semester starts.

Adding them to your policy matters more once they’re actually driving to and from campus, not just around town on the weekends. Most carriers offer good student discounts, which can help offset the cost of adding a teen driver. And coverage can shift depending on how often and where they’re really driving, so it’s worth being specific instead of guessing.

Scenario: A pipe bursts overnight. The physical damage gets fixed. What doesn’t get fixed on its own is the weeks you’re closed, the pay roll that still runs, and the rent that’s still due whether you’re open or not.

Business interruption coverage is built for exactly that gap, and it’s one of the most common things missing from a standard commercial policy. Most owners don’t find out it’s missing until they need it.

Umbrella insurance is one of those coverages people assume is only for wealthy people. It’s not.

It kicks in once your home or auto liability limits max out, and it covers more than most people expect, including certain lawsuits and injuries that happen off your own property. If you have a pool, a dock, a dog, or a teenage driver, a single lawsuit could outpace your current coverage faster than you think.

The part that surprises people most: it’s usually far more affordable than they assumed.

Sending a kid off to college with a long list already, so here are 3 insurance things worth adding to it before move in day.

Dorm belongings usually have a lower coverage limit than what’s covered at home. Off-campus housing typically isn’t covered under your policy at all, which is where renters insurance comes in. If they’re taking a car to school, your auto policy needs to reflect that.

None of this is complicated. It just takes one conversation before they leave.
