We were honored to help celebrate the unveiling of the new Ona Judge mural on Court Street in Portsmouth alongside members of our community and the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire.
Ona Judge’s story is one of courage, resilience, and the pursuit of freedom. Born into slavery to George and Martha Washington, she escaped at 22 years old and ultimately built a life as a free woman here in New Hampshire.
Following the unveiling, we were proud to host a community gathering at the bank to continue the conversation, reflect on this important history, and celebrate the lasting impact of preserving and sharing these stories.
