Shamelessly selfish....

I welcome the first Wednesday of every month as I get to hang with these people.

I joined so I could learn, share ideas and never leave a senior client without a place to turn for help.

I stayed because every member who regularly attends cares.

I selfishly feed from that positivity once a month.

It can be a lifeline as I work with a demographic facing big life changes.

I'm a corporate sponsor to walk the talk.

It's now my catch-up with partners for updates, coordinating other events, and calendar coordination for coffee and happy hour commitments.

Thanks to everyone who greets me with a smile, a hug, and a willingness to come alongside and lend a hand. This has morphed into so much more than a monthly networking meeting.

These are people I know, trust, and make time for.

What started as a 90 minute panel event, morphed.

Last week I had the privilege of speaking on a panel where we broke down the various stages and options for senior living.

Demystifying how to plan for aging in place and in-home care.
Who can assist with exploring community living and the costs and resources associated with each phase.

I shared the stage with Peter Wilhelm, Senior Placement Advisor and Abby Danzig from The Springs Living.

Questions flew, notes were taken, and the follow-up conversations were a breath of fresh air. Curiosity and exploration, a willingness to understand.

A first for me this week...

A financial advisor referred a client to me by saying: "She's a kind knowledgeable older woman."

He told me: "She will listen to you. You are relatable.
You know, someone closer to her age.”

Ok. I got it on the first swing, and I'll take it.

Yesterday I met with two remarkable women facing very different life decisions — one buying a home, one figuring out how to fund her husband's medical care.

I’m the idea person. I’m the educator.

And to one, I’m now the “friend”

“I feel like I made a friend today,” she said. “I had no idea there were payment optional choices.”
“You spent time, explained multiple options, and I now feel like I can talk to my kids and figure stuff out.”

It was a good day.

If you still think reverse mortgages are a scam or a bad idea — come talk to a knowledgeable older woman. I'll set you straight.
