Why EQUAL VOICES? Where did that name come from? People keep asking, so figured we’d tell a little more here.

We work mostly with couples. In financial planning, you often encounter some vulnerable moments between two partners, because money👏 is👏 intense👏. It’s divisive, it’s emotional, and it can tear good relationships apart.

We noticed, though, that the people we work best with with had such strong foundations in their relationships that the money wasn’t a problem for them – it was a chance to build something, together.

When two people have solid communication, and treat each other with love + respect, you can go pretty far. You can create a life that others might not even dream of. Like…maybe leave a job you don’t like, or spend way more time with kids instead of working, or live in some magical place. And financial planning is key to that.

We wanted to spotlight those couples, and something that we value so much in our work and in the founders’ marriage – being an equal voice. No one has more say or more sway than the other. And everyone honors that, everyday.

📌 When should parents actually start thinking about college?

Earlier than you think, and earlier than your high school will tell you.

In this clip, college expert Jonathan West with College Aid Pro | College Planning + Financial Aid breaks down why most families don’t start planning until the high school’s guidance office puts it on their radar (usually end of sophomore year or start of junior year). By then, you’re playing catch-up.

His advice: parents should start freshman or sophomore year. No need to get your teenager involved just yet. Let them enjoy high school. This is a “parents get ahead of it” strategy, not a “put pressure on your kid” strategy.

“We’re not gonna qualify,” the assumption that costs families thousands. 💰

Expert Jonathan West with College Aid Pro | What College Really Costs breaks down the difference between need-based aid and merit aid, and why so many parents rule themselves out before ever running the numbers.

Spoiler: it doesn’t matter which type of aid you get. It all reduces the bill the same way.

Don’t be THAT couple. “We’ll figure it out” is not a plan.

🚨 Paying for your kid’s college could actually hurt their grades... 📚 👀

A 2013 study found that students whose parents paid for college WITHOUT discussing responsibility had the lowest grades.

Luckily for us, there’s a fix. Clear communication = better outcomes. Which is why we made an episode about the conversations you should be having about your kid’s college education.

What generation had it financially worse? We find that the real millennial money gap isn’t with boomers. It’s with each other.

Yes, student debt delayed homeownership, savings, and marriage in ways boomers never dealt with. But, asset growth and wage gains have helped millennials in ways past generations didn’t get.

The bigger story might be inside our own generation. Top-earning millennials are likely outpacing where top boomers were at our age. The bottom earners?

Possibly struggling more than their boomer counterparts ever did.
