Roth conversions are getting a lot of attention, especially as we get closer to the end of the year and we understand why.

The idea of potentially having more tax-free income available in retirement sounds pretty appealing but here’s where we encourage people to look at the bigger picture.

Just because a Roth conversion can be a good strategy doesn’t mean it’s the right strategy for everyone.

There’s the tax impact today.
Your current income.
Your future retirement income.
Your Social Security strategy.
And potentially even what you pay for Medicare.
One decision can affect another.

That’s why we don’t believe the question should simply be:
“Should we convert to Roth?”

The better question is:
“Does a Roth conversion make sense as part of our overall retirement plan?”
Sometimes it does.
Sometimes it doesn’t.
And the numbers matter.

With year-end approaching, this is a good time to review whether a Roth conversion deserves a closer look.

👉 Save this video and review your options before December 31.

There’s always something happening that makes people nervous about retirement.

An election.
Market volatility.
Changes in interest rates.
A new headline about the economy.
And we understand why people pay attention.

When you’ve spent 30 or 40 years saving for retirement, the last thing you want is uncertainty affecting everything you’ve worked for.

But here’s something we remind people:
Retirement planning shouldn’t be about predicting what’s going to happen next.

Because none of us can do that consistently.
It’s about understanding your income needs, managing risk, reviewing your tax strategy and preparing for different scenarios.

What happens if markets decline?
What happens if taxes change?
What happens if retirement lasts longer than expected?
Those are the conversations worth having.
The goal isn’t to react to every headline.
It’s to have a plan that can adapt when life changes.

👉 If retirement is getting closer, ask yourself whether your plan has been reviewed for different scenarios.

There's something about being in a room full of people who are building, growing and taking chances that reminds us how important community really is.

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to attend the Risk Takers event and spend the evening connecting with other entrepreneurs and business professionals in our community. And nights like this are a good reminder that business isn't only built behind a desk. It's built through conversations, relationships, showing up, supporting other businesses
And sometimes simply getting out of the office long enough to meet the people doing great things around you. ❤️

We're also in a unique season right now because we're growing two very different businesses — Precise Financial Solutions and W Space Venue.

They serve very different purposes, but there's one thing at the heart of both:
People.

At Precise, it's about the relationships and trust we build with the families we serve.

At W Space, it's about creating a place where people can come together, celebrate and connect.

Different businesses. Same belief that relationships matter.

Thank you to Risk Takers for bringing so many people together and creating another opportunity for our Southwest Florida business community to connect.

Here's to continuing to grow, support one another and maybe take a few risks along the way. ❤️

We meet a lot of people who can tell us almost exactly how much they have saved for retirement.

$700,000.
$1 million.
$1.5 million.

But then we ask:
“How are you planning to take the money out?”
And that’s usually where the conversation changes.
Because retirement isn’t just about accumulating money.
Eventually, we have to decide which accounts to use, when to use them, how Social Security fits in and what those decisions could mean for taxes.

That’s why we’d rather have these conversations before retirement, not after. You spent decades putting the money in.
There should be a plan for taking it back out.

One of the things I wish more people understood before retirement is that taxes don't suddenly disappear when the paycheck stops.

They just start showing up differently.

Now we're deciding which accounts to pull from.

Whether Roth conversions make sense.

When Social Security should start.

How much income we're creating.

And whether those decisions could affect things like Medicare premiums.

And here's the tricky part:

**One decision can affect another.**

That's why I don't believe retirement tax planning should be a once-a-year conversation when you're filing your return.

It should be part of the retirement-income conversation.

If you're 5–10 years from retirement, these are the kinds of decisions worth reviewing **before** you start making withdrawals.

👉 **Save this post.** These are five questions you'll want to come back to.

And if you're ready to see how these pieces fit together in your own retirement, start your Precise Plan.

I think one of the biggest shifts that happens as you get closer to retirement is realizing that the number on your statement isn’t necessarily the number you get to spend.

You may withdraw $80,000.

But what do you actually keep?

That depends on where the money comes from, how it’s taxed, what other income you have and sometimes even when you take it.

And that’s why I don’t like treating tax planning and retirement-income planning like two completely separate conversations.

They affect each other.

The goal isn’t just to create income.

It’s to understand how that income flows through the rest of your retirement plan.

And that’s exactly what we’re going to be talking about this month.

For most of your working life, the goal is pretty simple:

Save. Build the 401(k). Contribute to the IRA. Watch the balance grow.

Then retirement gets closer and the question completely changes.

It's no longer just, “How much do I have?”

Now it becomes:

How much can I take out?

How much will I owe in taxes?

When should Social Security start?

Which account should I use first?

And how do I make all of it work together?

That's why I tell people your retirement balance is important, but it's only part of the picture.

You don't retire on a balance, you retire on income.

And the years before retirement are when those decisions really start to matter.

👉 If retirement is 5–10 years away, now is the time to start putting the pieces together.

People sometimes come into our office thinking the first conversation is going to be all numbers.
Then I start asking questions.

When do you actually WANT to retire?
What does retirement look like for you?
Are you planning to travel?
Is leaving money to your kids important?
What are you worried about?

Because I can look at statements all day, but those statements don’t tell me what you want your life to look like.

The numbers come next.

First, I need to understand you.
That’s where a Precise Plan starts.

For years, retirement can feel like one big finish line.

Save enough. Get the 401(k) where it needs to be. Pick the retirement date. Finally get there.

But then comes the part people don’t talk about enough…

What if retirement lasts 25 or 30 years?

Now the conversation isn’t just about how much you’ve saved. It’s about how you turn those savings into income, manage taxes, prepare for healthcare costs and still have the freedom to actually enjoy the years you worked so hard for.

Getting TO retirement is one goal.

Having a plan to get THROUGH retirement is another.

That’s the kind of planning we do at Precise.
