Thursday Thoughts!

On some mornings these are harder to write than they have any right to be. Not because I don't have any really interesting and worthy thoughts to share, but sharing them appropriately is sometimes a challenge.

I have a view of the Plymouth Bay from my window which is lovely and a luxury. I can see a sliver of Nelson Beach that abuts the property my office is on, and the tip of Plymouth Beach. Right now there are shorebirds hunting shellfish, all summer there have been boats cruising along, and last winter when it was super duper cold there were massive ice floes which piled up on the shore.

Labor Day should be a bigger deal. Not saying that this would be at the expense of the deal-ness-magnitude of other holidays, just that Labor Day should be a bigger deal.

Saw these crows hanging out on a walk the other day. Was tempted to leave something shiny for them, but I didn't have anything shiny on hand. Alas.

Tuesday Thoughts!

I'm very proud of the three cacti I bought for my office about a year ago. They are still alive and one is even growing. Do we think they deserve to be repotted into actual containers?

Wednesday nights are not the appropriate night for NFL football.

It is September 1st which means Halloween is coming up, and so that means Thanksgiving is right around the corner and of course Christmas after that so it might as well be mid February.

Thursday thoughts!

The elementary school where my oldest will be starting school tomorrow gives kindergarteners lockers! Like, legit lockers. I had to wait until I was a big bad 6th grader to have a locker.

I hope Mickey Gasper and Payton Tolle launch their own line of mustache care products, but more importantly I hope they absolutely destroy the Yankees this weekend.

I was given a genuine, unprompted, and meaningful compliment yesterday by a colleague and that felt good and so I'm going to work on doing the same more often for others.

When I was 16 I was convinced that by now I would own several classic muscle cars which I had purchased from a junk yard and restored to pristine glory. Never mind the fact that I had never once done any sort of car work. Now at 38 I have the same ambitions for, lets call it mid 50s.

Tuesday thoughts!

I've been involved with public education my whole life in some form or another, but this Friday will be my first time as a parent of a public school student and I'm very curious to see what it is like from that side of things.

I have several ambitions for the fall, including some outdoor projects which will definitely be less expensive, easier, and come out better than I expected.

I don't love the Boutte trade but I don't think the Patriots care what I think.

In order to get to Star Trek we'll probably have to go through a Starship Troopers phase, an Expanse phase, and a Dune phase. So that'll be interesting.

Eateries have gotten into this whole arms race about building the most artisanal, biggest, baddest, most complicated sandwich they possibly can. Except for your local "House Of...." pizza/sub/salad joints. They are the last bastion of sanity.

The Red Sox are good again and I am optimistic for a highly entertaining sports fall.

This is probably a very strained neighbor dynamic. Or maybe they strategically cooperate. Who knows.

Thursday thoughts!

I nearly forgot to do this because it has been a very busy day with a lot of things going on, which is great! But I'm glad I remembered to do this because it is something I decided I was going to do and make it part of my weekly routine. I have a couple other things which I could (maybe should) be doing instead but I think perhaps maybe there is something to all these people going on and on about consistency being a good thing.

September is in the extended forecast on my weather app

I think we as a nation have lost track of what is important in a sandwich. I will not elaborate on this except to say that we have lost a middle ground of bread : filling ratio and it's no way to live.

Guy Pearce is probably an underrated actor, Guy Ritchie is probably an accurately rated director, and Guy Fierri is probably an overrated fashion icon. Guy Fawkes definitely an overrated political activist.

Soup season is coming, which means it's time to make Kale-Chorizo soup "for my family" and then eat it all because no one in my family likes it. This is a good thing, you see.

Tuesday thoughts!

I'm usually allergic to aphorisms and idioms that get tossed around in workplace settings but I'm starting to think that maybe I'm directing too much energy at being annoyed by them instead of just being like, "yeah man, eat that elephant one bite at a time."

There is a difference between hard work and challenging work and on the best of days you do a bit of both.

Ever get to talking about something and then halfway through you find yourself more a passenger on the train of thought than the conductor?

Heard the guys on 98.5 compare TreVeyon Henderson to Adam Dunn....gonna hit .200 but with 40 homers and you absolutely take that. Adam Dunn ruled.

Scam artists have been known to impersonate loved ones, tricking older adults into providing financial information or sending money to an unknown account. Always ask questions that only your loved one can answer or call your family member back at a number that you know to be legitimate.
