If you are still in the mood for fresh fruits and veggies, check out the SCIO Farmers Market at Fountain Park in Sheboygan!

It runs Wednesdays and Saturdays til the end of October, from 8 am to 1pm.

And if you’ll be despondent without the Markets to attend, the SCIO Winter Farmers Market will pick up right after the Summer Markets end!

It will run from November of 2026 to April 2027, on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. The hours are 9am – 12 pm. Best of all, it’s indoors – so you don’t have to stand in the snow to get your goodies!

Fun Fact Friday: Harry Houdini died on Halloween, 1926!

Ok, maybe not so much Fun as Interesting:

While Houdini was known for his death-defying stunts, they did not always leave him unscathed. On October 11th, 1926, his leg was injured during a show in New York. During a later stop in Montreal, he was punched him several times in the stomach. Because of the ankle injury, he was not standing or able to defend himself.

While Houdini was in pain following the attack, he continued his tour against doctor’s orders. He collapsed during a show in Detroit.

There are differing theories as to the reason for the attack. According to a witness, he was punched by a student who had asked Houdini if it was true he could resist hard punches to the midsection.

Another theory is that the student was actually hired by members of a group of psychics and fortune-tellers, whom Houdini had been trying to expose as fraudulent.

Whatever the reason, many feel the attack caused the magician to ignore the warning signs of appendicitis.

His ruptured appendix was removed, but not before the damage was done. He died on Oct. 31st with his wife and brothers in attendance.

His wife Bess held a séance yearly, trying to contact Houdini. While she stopped after ten years, others have tried as well. No one has yet said that he has spoken from beyond the grave.

Fun Fact Friday: The sound of Michael Myers stabbing people in the original “Halloween” movie was made by the effects team stabbing a watermelon!

The 1978 movie had a budget of $300,000, half of which went to the cameras.

No notes as to whether they only used one watermelon…

Fun Fact Friday: What date the Autumnal Equinox falls on depends on where you are in the world!

There are actually two variables for this fact:
1) If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, the Autumnal Equinox occurs in the month of September. If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, it occurs in March.
2) It also depends on what Time Zone you are in! For 2026, in Plymouth, WI, the Autumnal Equinox will occur at 7:05 pm Central Daylight Time on Tues. Sept. 22nd. If you are in Darwin, Australia, it will be at 9:35 am local time, on Wed. Sept. 23rd.

This is because it is specific moment, determined by the Earth’s location relative to the Sun.

Now that we have all learned something, it’s time to go home!
(I have yet to have a boss agree to my logic, for some reason…)
