Congrats to our Core Value winner Stacy!

April’s Core Value was “Seek the Story,” listening to your clients and other team members. Asking questions instead of jumping in without knowing what the person in front of you really needs.

We appreciate Stacy and all the others who were nominated, for doing all this and more every day!

Fun Fact Friday: The phrase “Observable Universe” is not just what we can see from here on Earth, but the limit of how far light itself can travel!

Prompted by a normal human frustration with matters both large and small, I looked to astronomy for reassurance how truly tiny they can be.

As of today’s technology and understanding, nothing moves faster than the speed of light in a vacuum: 299,792,458 metres per second or approximately 700 million miles per hour. But it does not go on forever.

Some objects are so far away from Earth, that the light they emit will not reach us before decaying past the ability to detect. That line is called the “particle horizon” – outside our Observable Universe.

Every star, every planet has its own Observable Universe, which may or may not include Earth.

Not sure if I feel reassured, but the headache is a good distraction.

Fun Fact Friday: Today is Sherlock Holmes Day! (The anniversary of the author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthday)

Theory: Sherlock Holmes fans are perhaps a tad obsessed.

Evidence:
- No one person, company or organization is behind Sherlock Holmes Day – just the readers
- When Conan Doyle decided to kill off his most famous character in 1893, the fans of the time began sending him outraged letters, enough to convince him to bring Holmes back in 1903
- 221B Baker Street, Holmes’ residence in the books, does exist and was turned into a museum, with artifacts from the stories
- Over 70 actors have portrayed him in film and television, in both period and modern-day settings

Deduction: Confirmed, but delightful!
