Some of the biggest opportunities in my life came when I wasn't ready.

Years ago, the chairman of the board asked me to become President and CEO. I wasn't preparing for that role. I didn't have everything figured out.

But I said YES.

After almost 40 years in corporate America, I've learned something. Some of life's most expensive mistakes aren't the decisions we make. They're the decisions we keep putting off.

We tell ourselves: I'll start saving when I make more money. I'll plan for retirement when I'm older. I'll protect my family when things settle down.

But life doesn't wait until we're ready. Saying YES doesn't mean having all the answers. It means being willing to take that first step.

So here's my Tuesday challenge. Don't wait for the perfect time. Start with one conversation. One decision. One YES.

Because the people we love are counting on the decisions we make today.

I've learned that earning money and taking good care of it are two different skills.

And I'm still working on both.

Here in Newport Coast with Jessica, celebrating my birthday, I'm grateful for what God has entrusted to us. And I'm thinking about how to be a better steward of it.

Warren Buffett once said, "The best investment by far is anything that develops yourself."

That's why I keep learning. After four decades of work, I still want to ask better questions and understand our financial choices before we make them.

Because those decisions touch the people I love. How we prepare for the future. How we enjoy today. And how we help someone else along the way.

To me, financial freedom includes having room to be generous.

What's one money lesson you wish you'd learned sooner? 👇

I grew up on an island famous for its stone money. But the greatest wealth of my childhood had nothing to do with money.

Growing up barefoot on Yap Island, we had little by Western standards, but we had family, community, the ocean, and people who looked after one another.

Over 40 years in Silicon Valley taught me a lot about business and success. But some of life’s greatest lessons came from that simple childhood.

Today, enjoying a quiet moment in Newport Beach with Jessica, I’m reminded that true wealth isn’t just what we accumulate. It’s the people we love, the lives we touch, and the blessings we sometimes overlook.

I left Yap many years ago, but the richness of that childhood has never left me. ❤️

Wishing everyone a blessed Sunday. 🙏

After all these years building companies, here's what I've learned. The most valuable things we build aren't always companies. They're relationships.

I'm sitting at DFW, getting ready to leave Dallas.

I came here for a conference, to learn, grow and reconnect. And what a blessing it's been.

Time with Manish and his wife. Reconnecting with Dalton, a good friend. Visiting Sudhakar, a respected community leader here in Irving.

These are the moments I treasure.

I've spent decades building companies, pursuing goals and looking toward what's next. But as I get older, I'm reminded that life isn't just about what we build. It's about who we share the journey with.

Now Jessica and I are off to Newport Beach to celebrate my birthday, enjoy the ocean and slow down for a few days.

Another year older. Another year grateful.

Because in the end, it's not just what we accomplish. It's the people we love, the friendships we nurture and the lives we touch.

Thank you, Dallas. Until next time. ❤️

A company can look incredibly successful on paper, and still be one crisis away from trouble.
So can a family.
When you're leading a company, everyone wants to talk about growth. More revenue. More customers. Bigger numbers. I loved growth too.
But as CEO, I had to think beyond those numbers. Could we meet our obligations? What risks were we exposed to? Were we building something that could survive the unexpected?
Today, I look at family finances through much the same lens. And I've come to believe three things:
Cash flow keeps you moving. Savings give you breathing room.
Protecting your ability to earn can be just as important as growing what you've already built.
A portfolio shouldn't just grow. It should serve your life, when you need it, through changing markets, and eventually through retirement.
Growth is exciting. But resilience is what helps you stay in the game. Our families deserve that same thinking.
So here's my question: are you building something that simply looks good on paper, or something that can actually take care of your family?

Money isn't the only thing that compounds.

Relationships compound. Knowledge compounds, when we act on it. And the decisions we make today shape our families for generations.

This week in Dallas, I've been thinking about something bigger than money. Time.

It feels like yesterday Jessica and I were raising two little kids, sixteen months apart. I was the only paycheck. We were thinking about protecting our family, saving for college, and a future that felt so far away.

Today, Daniel has started his career. Carly is in her third year of college.

Where did those years go? It's exciting, and a little scary. Life doesn't wait until we're ready.

After almost forty years in business, I've learned success isn't about what we accumulate. It's about the people we lift up along the way.

My vision today isn't another company. It's helping more families gain the knowledge and confidence to build a better future. One conversation. One family at a time.

The conference ends today. The mission continues.

So here's my question: what's one thing you wish you'd started ten years ago? Share it in the comments. I'd love to hear your story.

No Family Left Behind.

Some of the most important work in our home never came with a paycheck.

When our kids were little, Jessica stayed home with them. I brought home the income, but her work made mine possible.

Here at the TFA Conference in Dallas, I keep coming back to that. You can't understand what a family needs by only asking what they earn.

So here's my question: Does your plan account for both the person who brings home the paycheck and the person doing the work at home?

If you're not sure, message me YES. Let's talk.

No Family Left Behind.

For years, I ran companies. I was the one standing at the front of the room.

This week, I'm sitting in the back. Listening.

I came to America at seventeen, from a small island called Yap. One thing hasn't changed since that day. I've never stopped being a student.

This week reminded me of three things:

1. Experience doesn't mean you're keeping up.
2. Sometimes you learn more by listening than by speaking.
3. Learning only matters when you put it into action.

I see so many families who have worked hard their entire lives and still have questions about money, retirement and protecting what they've built. Not because they don't care. Because nobody ever explained it to them.

So here's my question: what's one money question you've always wanted answered, but never had the chance to ask?

Put it in the comments. On Wednesday, I'll answer the one I see most.

Never too experienced to be a student. And never too late to learn.

No Family Left Behind.

Sunday morning at SFO, Dallas bound!

Heading to Dallas for a financial conference, reconnecting with longtime friends, and meeting fellow financial professionals and business leaders.

Meanwhile, Carly is away at college, and Daniel is traveling as well. Our family is in different places these days, each on our own journey. A reminder of how quickly life moves and how precious our time together really is.

After all these years, I’ve learned that life isn’t just about where we go or what we accomplish. It’s about the people we meet, the relationships we nurture, and the memories we make along the way.

Grateful for another opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference.

Dallas, here we come!
