You can't pass a good job down to your children.

Read that again.

You can work 20, 30, 40 years for someone else and retire with a pension, a party, and a plaque. But the day you stop showing up, it stops.

Entrepreneurship is different. A business doesn't retire when you do. Your children can grow up inside it, learn it, and one day own it.

That's not a paycheck. That's an institution.

And consider this — about 80% of new jobs in America are created by small businesses. The job we tell our kids to go find is the one somebody else was brave enough to create.

We don't just need more employees in our communities.

We need more owners.

The things you wear and the things you drive lose value the moment you own them. That's not opinion — that's math. But I've watched something for 25 years that math can't explain: there are more luxury cars in low-income neighborhoods than in affluent suburbs. That's not about money. That's about worth.

Too many of us don't have self-esteem — we have material esteem. We tie who we are to what we're driving. Take away the cars (Cadillac, Benz, BMW), take away the labels, and the confidence goes with it.

Meanwhile the real currency is quietly slipping away: time.

Because when your possessions own you, you can't retire. You can't walk away from a job that's killing you. You can't start the business you've been talking about for years. You're not broke. You're obligated.

And there's a difference between looking successful and being free.
