Tonight is part 3 of our financial literacy series for the Sermo physician community.

We do these regularly because most physicians were never actually taught how to manage the income they worked so hard to earn.

So far we've covered investment planning cash flow and retirement but tonight we're closing the loop on the piece most doctors get wrong:

which is protecting your income your single most important asset.

PAs and NPs — nobody wants to say this out loud so I will:

Your employer benefits were not designed for you.

They were designed for the average employee.

You are not the average employee.

A $1,000/month disability cap.
Life insurance at 1x salary.
A 403(b) with no guidance on how to actually use it. Student loan payments on autopilot for a decade.

This isn't bad luck. This is the default.

And the default is expensive.

You spent 6-8 years training to save lives.

Nobody spent 6 minutes teaching you how to keep the money you earn.

PAs and NPs are some of the highest earners in healthcare — and some of the most financially behind.

That's not a discipline problem. That's a system problem.

Couldn't make it to AAPA this year... twins have me on a short leash. 😂

But if you're walking those floors this week, pay attention to the conversations happening outside the sessions.

PAs at conferences like this are usually at a pivot point — new job, new contract, first real income. And almost none of them have a plan for what to do with it.
