"Do I really need life insurance?"

It's a question worth asking—and the answer looks different for everyone.

Life insurance may be worth considering if someone depends on you financially or if your passing could create a financial burden for someone else.

That could include:
👨‍👩‍👧 Parents with children
💍 Married couples
🏡 Homeowners
💼 Business owners
💵 Primary income earners
🎓 Those with certain debts or financial obligations

And life insurance isn't necessarily something you wait to think about until later in life.

As your career, family, income, and financial responsibilities change, your protection needs can change too.

The important thing is understanding what makes sense for your situation.

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month! 💙

Life insurance is about more than a policy—it's about helping protect the people and plans that matter most to you.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Starting or growing a family
💼 Building a business
🎓 Planning for your children's future

Life insurance can play an important role in a broader financial strategy.

Throughout September, I'll be sharing information about life insurance, answering common questions, and helping clear up some of the misconceptions surrounding it.

📚 Back-to-School Season Isn't Just About School Supplies—It's a Great Time for a Financial Check-In.

As families prepare for a new school year, it's easy to focus on backpacks, lunchboxes, and schedules.

But it's also a great opportunity to review your family's financial plan.

Here are a few questions worth asking:

✅ Is our emergency fund where we want it to be?
✅ Have we adjusted our budget for new school expenses?
✅ Are we contributing toward college savings?
✅ Have we reviewed our life insurance and beneficiary information?
✅ If something unexpected happened, would our family be financially prepared?

Back-to-school season is all about preparing for the future—and that mindset applies to our finances, too.

Small financial check-ins today can help create greater confidence tomorrow.

What financial goal is your family focusing on this school year?

📈 Investing and Risk Go Hand in Hand.

Every investment carries some level of risk—but not all risks are the same.

Understanding the different types of investment risk can help you become a more informed investor and make financial decisions with greater confidence.

Some of the most common types of investment risk include:

• Inflation Risk
• Interest Rate Risk
• Business (Company) Risk
• Liquidity Risk
• Volatility Risk

The good news? You don't have to navigate these concepts alone.

I've included a great educational article from Investor.gov that explains each type of risk in more detail.

📖 Take a few minutes to read through it and let me know which type of risk you found most interesting or surprising.

All investments involve some degree of risk. In finance, risk refers to the degree of uncertainty and/or potential financial loss inherent in an investment decision. In general, as investment risks rise, investors seek higher returns to compensate themselves for taking such risks.

Most people plan for retirement. Fewer plan for what retirement might actually look like.

When people hear "long-term care," they often think of nursing homes.

In reality, long-term care can include:
🏡 Care at home
🤝 Assistance with daily activities like bathing or dressing
🏥 Assisted living communities
🩺 Skilled nursing care

The question isn't just "Will I ever need care?"

It's also:

How would I pay for it?
Would my family have to become caregivers?
What choices would I have if I needed assistance?

Planning ahead can help preserve your independence, reduce stress on loved ones, and provide more options if care is ever needed.

Long-term care planning isn't about expecting the worst—it's about preparing for life's uncertainties so you can focus on what matters most.

Have you ever had a conversation with your family about long-term care? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

It’s important to create a plan to help protect yourself and your family from the financial and emotional impact of a possible long-term care event.

Starting a new job? Don't forget about your old 401(k).

Changing jobs is exciting—but it's also a good time to review your retirement savings.

Many people don't realize they may have options for an old 401(k), including:
✔️ Leaving it with a former employer (if allowed)
✔️ Rolling it into a new employer's retirement plan (if permitted)
✔️ Rolling it into an IRA
✔️ Cashing it out (which may have taxes and penalties, depending on your situation)

The right choice depends on your personal goals, investment options, fees, and overall financial picture.

Before making any decisions, it's worth taking the time to understand your options.

If you've changed jobs recently and aren't sure where to start, I'd be happy to help you understand the choices available so you can make an informed decision.

If you’re planning to change jobs or retire, you may want to consider a 401k rollover. New York Life shares why reinvesting your 401k makes financial sense.

Most people don't need a perfect financial plan.

They simply need a plan.

Life is full of milestones:
✔️ Buying a home
✔️ Starting a family
✔️ Saving for college
✔️ Preparing for retirement
✔️ Protecting your income
✔️ Leaving a legacy

Having a financial plan doesn't mean you have everything figured out—it means you're taking intentional steps toward the future you want.

Small decisions made consistently over time often have a much bigger impact than trying to make one perfect decision.

No matter where you are in life, it's never too early—or too late—to begin planning.

What's one financial goal you're working toward over the next five years?

Knowing how to secure your financial well-being is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. You don’t have to be a genius to do it. You just just need to know a few basics, form a plan, and be ready to stick to it.

Life insurance is one of the most misunderstood financial tools.

There are a lot of misconceptions about life insurance, and unfortunately, those myths often prevent people from protecting the people they love.

Here are five of the most common myths I hear:

❌ Myth #1: I'm too young to need life insurance.
✅ Reality: The younger and healthier you are, the more affordable coverage can be.

❌ Myth #2: It's too expensive.
✅ Reality: Many people overestimate the cost. Coverage may be much more affordable than you think.

❌ Myth #3: My employer provides enough coverage.
✅ Reality: Employer coverage is a great benefit, but it may not be enough and often doesn't follow you if you change jobs.

❌ Myth #4: I don't have kids, so I don't need it.
✅ Reality: Life insurance can help cover debts, final expenses, and provide financial support for loved ones or business partners.

❌ Myth #5: I'll get it later.
✅ Reality: Waiting can mean paying more—or becoming uninsurable if your health changes.

Life insurance isn't just about preparing for the unexpected—it's about protecting the future you've worked so hard to build.

If you've ever wondered what type of coverage makes sense for your situation, I'd be happy to have a conversation. No pressure, just education.
