Most people spend decades asking one question:

“How much money do I need to retire?”

But that may not be the most important question.

A better question might be:

“How do I turn what I’ve saved into dependable income without accidentally running out?”

There’s a big difference between accumulating money and distributing it.

During your working years, you’re putting money IN. During retirement, you’re taking money OUT.

Taxes, market losses, healthcare expenses, inflation, Social Security timing, withdrawal rates, and longevity all start working together.

The number matters. But the PLAN matters too.

If you’re within 5 to 10 years of retirement, start thinking beyond your account balance.

Ask yourself:

Do I know where my monthly income will come from?

Do I understand how healthcare costs fit into my budget?

Do I know what happens if the market drops early in retirement?

Retirement shouldn’t begin with guessing.

What’s your biggest retirement question right now?

Comment below.

And share this with someone who is getting close to retirement.

Your Medicare Advantage plan may not be available next year: and now is the time to pay attention.

Major carriers, including Humana, UnitedHealthcare, and Aetna, are reducing or ending some Medicare Advantage offerings in certain areas. Roughly 3 million seniors may need to choose new coverage for 2027. Non-renewal notices may begin arriving in September.

Don't panic. If your plan is ending, your notice will explain your options and important deadlines. You may be able to:

Compare another Medicare Advantage plan
Switch to Original Medicare and consider Part D coverage
Review whether your doctors, prescriptions, pharmacies, and preferred benefits are still covered

Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7. Waiting too long could create unnecessary stress or a gap in coverage, so open every letter and review the details carefully.

Holmes Health, Wealth & Business is a local, independent insurance agency. We can help you compare your options for 2027 in plain language and make a confident decision.

If you receive a non-renewal notice: or simply want to be prepared: reach out to us for help reviewing your Medicare options.
