When I asked what this week long fasting does to cancer cells, he said the “damage to mitochondrial respiration is the origin of all cancers.” - Jimmy Moore

"Fasting will induce cellular autophagy, thus allowing the cells of the body to consume damaged or defective mitochondria. Metabolism of Ketone bodies will reduce damaging oxygen radicals while enhancing the metabolic efficiency of the mitochondria. Fasting prevents cancer by enhancing the metabolic efficiency of mitochondria and by eliminating damaged mitochondria." - Dr. Seyfried

This FDA proposal merely continues the mistaken obsession over calories. They state these new regulations on labeling ready-to-eat foods for purchase at your local grocery store will "help consumers limit excess calorie intake and understand how the foods that they purchase at these establishments fit within their daily caloric and other nutritional needs."

It's not about the calories, people! Calories schmalories! A better idea is to have a new symbol for a teaspoon of sugar and for every 4g carbohydrates it gets one of those teaspoons plastered along the front of the packaging. Take the Red Velvet Cupcake sold at Ruby Tuesday for example. (http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-desserts-cupcake-red-velvet_f-ZmlkPTE4NTM4Mg.html) It has 285 calories, but that's not the whole story. Look at the carb counts mostly from the sugar and flour used in this product. 45 whopping grams of carbohydrates equivalent to OVER 11 TEASPOONS OF SUGAR!. Your body can't handle that kind of influx without enduring some metabolic consequences.

The FDA's suggestion to just put calorie information doesn't tell the whole story. Food quality and sugar/carbohydrate consumption are more important.

If the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gets its way, a pending federal regulation could make your check-out at the grocery store a tad pricier.
