Would you rather your successor fail at 35 with guidance? Or fail at 55 without it?

A successor who has never made a hard call, defended a decision, or recovered from a setback is unprepared for volatility. Gradual authority transfer, supported by mentorship and clear guardrails, creates strength without chaos.

Most successful families have a CPA they trust, an attorney they respect, and an investment firm they value.

The challenge? These professionals rarely sit at the same table.

We believe in a different approach. As a Convergent Family Office™, we serve as the central hub coordinating your entire team of specialists. By aligning your legal, tax, and investment strategies under one unified “roof,” we help replace confusion with a clear, collaborative path forward.

Is your advisory team talking to each other, or just to you?

“I know what needs to change… but I’m not the one making the decisions.”

We hear this from rising leaders in family enterprises more often than you might think. It can feel frustrating to see opportunities clearly but lack formal authority to act, but leadership must be earned, not granted.

Start by taking responsibility for one initiative, improving one system, strengthening one team. Small wins build trust, and trust is what expands decision rights.

Many family business heirs spend years carrying a question they've never said out loud: Is this what I would have chosen, if the choice had ever really been mine? In our latest article, we explore the psychology behind assumed succession and what families can build when heirs are given a genuine choice.

By Ahmie Baum, CFP® CFBAA question that surfaces in our work with family businesses more often than almost any other rarely comes from the founder. It comes from the heir—someone in their 30s or 40s who has spent years building a career inside the family business and has arrived at something they...

Disagreements are normal within a family business, especially when you are navigating legacy, liquidity, or a generational transition. These can get emotional. Clarity offers a path toward resolution

At Interchange Capital Partners, we believe the solution to uncertainty is our Clarity Foundation™ process.

When we run the numbers, stress-test different timelines, and map out ownership outcomes, something changes. The conversation becomes grounded. People see tradeoffs clearly. Risk becomes visible. Options become concrete.

We often see that the strongest foundations are built around kitchen tables, in everyday conversations about responsibility, generosity, and what it means to carry a legacy forward.

Today, we recognize the mothers and mother figures who influence not just families, but the character and continuity of the businesses those families steward.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Interchange Capital Partners.

“How often should family businesses review their exit strategy documents?”

At Interchange, we recommend a review of your complete set of documents every three years at minimum, or whenever a significant event occurs (e.g., death, divorce, birth, business expansion, or major tax law change).

Remember: don't review documents in isolation. Your operating agreement, buy-sell agreement, estate plan, trust documents, and entity structure should all be evaluated together as a system. Most families review these documents separately with different advisors, which is exactly how misalignments develop.

If you are within several years of a potential transition, now is the right time to evaluate how these documents work together.
