The Federal Reserve has decided to hold interest rates steady for now, but they've indicated a more cautious approach to future rate cuts than previously anticipated.

Key takeaways from the Fed's announcement:
1️⃣ One Rate Cut Expected This Year: The Fed is now projecting only one rate cut by the end of 2024, compared to the three predicted in March.
2️⃣ Higher Long-Term Interest Rates: The Fed also signaled that it believes the long-run interest rate will be higher than previously thought.
3️⃣ Modest Progress on Inflation: While inflation has eased, it remains elevated. The Fed expects inflation to return to its 2% target by 2026.

What does this mean for you? It's a reminder that the economic landscape is constantly evolving.

People vote with their dollars, and right now there’s a vote of no confidence from stock investors despite a rally in stock prices since November 2023. There’s $6.4 trillion sitting in money market mutual funds–the highest level since the Fed started tracking the number in 1945.

Following the Fed these days is like watching an endless point in a tennis match. The back-and-forth is causing anxiety, anticipation, more anxiety, and confusion. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic suggested one cut. San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly noted no guarantees, and Cleveland’s President Loretta Mester said rate cuts may come later this year. Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari said that no cuts may be on the table, followed by Fed Governor Michelle Bowman, who said it’s possible rates may have to move higher to control inflation. Confused? You’re not alone. So are the financial markets. Market speculators now anticipate only one, maybe two, cuts this year. But as the percentages show, there's not much conviction in any outlook.

The only thing we can control is the one thing we must learn to control, and that is our own behavior! 💡

When it comes to investing, controlling your behavior will be the difference between hitting your goals and not.

Build a plan.
