🔐 MEDICARE TIP OF THE WEEK: Protect Your Medicare Information!
Did you know your Medicare number should be protected just like your Social Security number?
Scammers sometimes pretend to be from Medicare or another trusted organization to trick people into sharing personal information.
🛑 Here are 4 important ways to protect yourself:
🔹 Be cautious of unsolicited calls. Be suspicious of unexpected calls asking for your Medicare number or financial information, especially if the caller pressures you to act immediately.
🔹 Never share personal information just to receive a promised benefit. Be wary of anyone claiming you must provide your Medicare number or pay a fee to receive a Medicare benefit or gift.
🔹 Guard your Medicare card. Keep it in a safe place and share your Medicare number only when necessary with trusted healthcare providers or other legitimate parties.
🔹 Verify before you respond. If someone contacts you claiming to represent Medicare, don't rely on the caller ID or the number they provide. Visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to verify information.
💡 Remember: You can take your time, ask questions, and hang up on suspicious callers. You do not have to make an immediate decision because someone pressures you.
