As soon as you realize you have an insurance claim, you need to call the insurance company directly and get your claim filed and get in line for an adjuster to call you. If the power goes out or the internet goes down, I won't be able to access your files.

Just in case you didn't know....when you are involved in an accident or get a ticket, it follows your drivers license number not the vehicle you were driving at the time of an accident. So if you get rid of the vehicle and get a new one, you are NOT getting rid of the ticket or accident too. Also, just by telling your insurance agent you haven't had any tickets or accidents doesn't get you a good rate. We run your driving record to make sure you haven't forgotten anything!

If you have ever been in my office, you know I am a summer kinda girl so here are some tips to get you through the winter.

Keep your headlights clear with car wax ! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents that will prevent that messy mixture from accumulating on your lights - lasts 6 weeks.

Squeak-proof your wipers with rubbing alcohol ! Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity.

Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Frost on it's way? Just fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy mess. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water---preventing water from freezing.

Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray. Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel . The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber

Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream. Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels . Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers.

De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved.

Something to think about.....with all of the droughts and wildfires.....Do you have any dead trees on your property? Does your neighbor have any dead trees on their property? You might want to look around your property and have them removed and if they belong to your neighbor, you might want to pay them a visit and ask them to remove any dead trees that may fall on your property. If a tree is dead by anything other than lightning it is NOT covered under your insurance policy for removal. Sure if it hits your house and causes damage we will pay to remove the tree from your house and pay for the damage less your deductible. However, if your dead tree falls on a neighbor or anyone else and causes bodily harm, you could get sued. Do you have enough liability coverage to protect you??? Below are the 5 steps that should be taken when you have an auto accident.
1. Call the Police. Even for small accidents, call 911. Police will help redirect traffic and document the incident.
2. Avoid Additional Damage. Move your car from the roadway as soon as possible to prevent additional collisions.
3. Get the Right Information for the Insurance Process. You'll need the other driver's name, license, phone number, insurance information, vehicle informaiton and license plate number.
4. Document the Accident. From taking pictures of the damage and the overall accident to interviewing witnesses and taking down their information. The more accident evidence you can gather for the insurance claim, the better.
5. File an Accident Report. File a state vehicle accident report (available at police stations and DMV websites) to help speed up the claims process.

Grimes/Montgomery/Waller counties. 15,000-plus acres, 60 percent contained. Active fire behavior was observed yesterday as the fire moved to the southwest in Waller County. Approximately seventy-five homes have been destroyed on this fire burning just west of Magnolia.
