“April showers bring May flowers”…and distracted driving awareness!!
I’m a mom to a teenage driver-and I’ll admit I worry about him getting distracted when he’s out there on the roads.
The truth is, we’re ALL susceptible to distractions, and one of the biggest culprits for all ages is your CELL PHONE! So, here are some practical tips to help you tame that particular distraction:
1) If you absolutely have to send a text, or respond to one, pull over & park your vehicle in a safe spot.
2) Ask a passenger to be your “designated texter”.
3) If you know it’s a struggle to not text & drive, police yourself! Activate driving mode, put on the “Do not Disturb” mode, or even set up automatic replies to let others know you’re driving and you’ll get back to them when you’re done.
4) If you still have trouble, put your phone someplace inaccessible while driving-your trunk, your glovebox, or even the backseat, until you’re safely at your destination.
5) If you’re a parent like me, remember that you’re modeling safe habits for your own young drivers! Teens who see their parents engaging in dangerous habits like texting while driving are more likely to do it themselves.
