The incoming arctic blast, with temperatures getting as low as -50° wind chill in parts of the US, means challenges for growers across the country.

One major risk for tree farms is frost cracking, when rapid temperature swings stress the trunk and cause vertical cracks in the bark and inner cambium of a tree.

Depending on the severity, these can cause major issues so it's important to monitor and address early on. After the cold snap: scout rows, flag split trunks early, and monitor for pests/disease that can move in through damaged bark.
