Recently many homes and properties were damaged from the monsoon storms. Remember these things before hiring a contractor or business to perform clean-up and repairs.

Cottonwood City Code 5.16.050 - Card—Required for doing business.

It is unlawful for any person to take part in the act of soliciting, peddling, hawking, selling or vending of goods, wares, merchandise, newspapers, magazines or services from house to house, or to only one house in the city without having registered with the city finance department and without having obtained a registration card; without having such card in possession; or failing to exhibit such card when request is made for the registration card by any resident of the city.

* Vet contractors to make sure they have a license. Use this link to check licensing https://roc.az.gov/. Also check sites like the Better Business Bureau and look at any licensing complaints.

* Always get a copy of the written / signed contract and take the time to read the details. Ask for the person’s business card that you are contracting with. Be sure to clarify that they actually work for that company.

* Get multiple estimates from qualified contractors.

* When in doubt about a contractor call your local law enforcement.
