The verdict was in today after a two day deliberation and a five day jury trial for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Our client was innocent of the charge. We never disputed he had a gun but he never aimed his gun and never committed an aggravated assault.

Our client was looking at 7.5 years in prison for a first time offense. There was a lot on the line. Attorney Samantha DuMond teamed up with long time colleague Attorney Marc Adair to make the best legal team for this case and for this client.

A huge shoutout to the DuMond Law Firm team for everything they do behind the scenes! There is so much that goes into a trial and it really is a team effort and a team win!

... Bailbondsmen are just insurance agents who work for the clients, not the State or the Courts nor are we law-enforcement. With that said if you get arrested by Law-enforcement, don't say anything. Exercise your rights to say nothing until you speak with your attorney and have your attorney with you during questioning. Top few things to remember...

Keep Quiet No Matter What The Police Say.
You have a 6th amendment right not to be questioned without a lawyer present; exercise it.

Do Not Consent To A Search.
If the police want to search they are going to search, but your lawyer will have a lot easier time in court if you don’t give consent.

Tell The Police You Want To Speak With A Lawyer and repeat only that statement when they try to talk to you. Invoking your right to counsel should keep the police from questioning you further.

Do Not Take Any Tests Or Give Any Samples Unless The Officer Has A Warrant. Anything you provide, including a field sobriety test, DNA sample, or breath sample will be used against you and you are not obligated to provide any of those things unless a warrant is issued.

Turn Off Your Telephone.
The police will take your telephone and log it into property. Eventually you may be allowed to bond or have the opportunity to get out of jail. You will need a phone that has battery left to make telephone calls. This may also keep the police from searching your telephone.

The top criminal offence is for drugs at 46.2% Weapons come in second at 17.5% and all other offences are in the low single digits.

Top sentencing is 5 - 10 years at 25.2% then drops slightly at 10 - 15 years at 21%

Highest age population sky rockets at age 26 until it peaks at 36 then only drops considerably at age 51.

About 80% prisoners are U.S. citizens and over 93% of prisoners are male.

The United States is about 5% of the world's population, but we have 25% of the world's prison population. There are about 2.2 million people in federal and state prisons - both public and private - and in various county and city jails. Huge numbers right.

The average person is not likely in need of our services, however we are mindful that you may know someone who is.

Now if you allegedly commit a crime, get arrested, then get placed in Jail and then get bonded out and then get tossed back in Jail... don't blame the Bondsman who got you out of Jail. Maybe think about the consequences of your said actions or the cop who arrested you, maybe the judge who set the bond and or maybe the county prosecutor who is pressing you to sign a plea deal. If by the end of all that you still blame the Bondsman for your consequences... well then Forest, I can't cure stupid so enjoy the State Pen Bunkie.
