Warning. Some of these images are graphic.
I can’t believe there are grown people that were not born when this atrocity occurred.
I had just spent a summer dancing for several intesive schools as a prepared for my professional life there as a performer. I was 10 months away from the big move. I had made friends, I had started building a life there.
I’ll never forget my Rette sisters running to tell me what happened as we all made our way to the dance room. We watched together in horror instead. I desperately tried to reach my friends, none of which I ever heard from again.
These images bring me back every time. The terror. The desperation. The realization they’ll never see their families again.
The world changed from this day.
I’ve tried to share with my teenager the effect this event had on those of us that lived through it. He doesn’t get it. Maybe he will one day. I pray we can continue to honor the memories of those that died in the towers, the pentagon, and flight 93. During a year or let’s face it, over a decade of political unrest, I pray we can find peace with each other as fellow Americans.
The year I moved to NYC, the community felt different than it had 12 months prior. We were together in this. We knew the only way forward was together. I miss that feeling. I’ve never felt it since. I pray we can find it again.
This week marks the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Here are some of the most unforgettable images from 9/11, showing moments of fear, loss, and bravery.
