🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
There is hope in the progress! Targeted treatments, medicines that help your immune system fight cancer, and treatments chosen for your cancer’s specific features are improving care for some people with breast cancer. Your treatment options depend on your cancer type and stage.
💙 Don’t forget your screening!
Screening mammograms are a preventive service and can be covered at 100%—with no cost to you when coverage requirements are met. Medicare covers eligible screening mammograms at no cost when the provider accepts Medicare’s approved payment. Most health plans cover recommended screening mammograms at no cost when you use an in-network provider. Diagnostic tests and follow-up care may have different costs.
💙 No insurance? You still have options!
Pennsylvania’s Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program offers free mammograms and certain follow-up tests to eligible uninsured or underinsured residents. Breast screening is generally for ages 40–64, with some exceptions; income limits apply.
📞 In Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, or Montgomery County, call AccessMatters: 1-800-848-3367 to check eligibility and find a participating provider.
Community events and mobile mammogram programs also bring screening closer to you. Ask about appointments, eligibility, and costs before attending.
