Financial advice should make things clearer, not leave you with a list of recommendations you don’t fully understand.

For me, that means talking through the options, what each one could mean for your life, and where the tradeoffs are.

A recommendation can look good on paper and still not fit the person sitting in front of me. Your goals, family responsibilities, timeline, comfort with risk, and what you need your money to do all matter.

I want clients to understand why a recommendation is being made, what the alternatives are, and what could change depending on the path they choose.

The goal isn’t just to make a financial decision. It’s to understand the decision well enough to feel comfortable living with it.

That’s the approach behind Higher Ground Financial Services.

Your family may know what you want in general. That doesn’t mean they know what to do if they actually have to step in.

It also means making sure the people closest to you understand your wishes, know where important information is kept, and know what they may be responsible for if they ever need to help make decisions.

Those conversations can feel uncomfortable, but they are much easier to have before there is a crisis.

Swipe through for a few things worth discussing with your family now.

Not everything that feels luxurious has a price tag attached to it.

A morning you don’t have to rush through. Being able to take the afternoon off. Booking the flight home when your family needs you. Getting an unexpected bill and knowing you can handle it.

You probably won’t see those things on a net worth statement, but having the financial room for them can take years to build.

Saving consistently, investing for the long term, keeping debt manageable, and planning ahead may not feel particularly exciting while you’re doing it. But those are the habits that can create more room and flexibility over time. And every step you take toward more financial freedom counts.

Higher mortgage rates are pushing some homebuyers to look for lower-cost alternatives.

The average 30-year fixed mortgage recently reached 6.79%, while the average rate for a 5/1 adjustable-rate mortgage fell to 5.94%. ARMs accounted for 8% of mortgage applications, showing more buyers are considering them as an alternative to fixed-rate loans.

The lower initial rate can make an ARM attractive, especially when buyers are already trying to manage higher home prices and borrowing costs. But the first payment is not the only number that matters.

The tradeoff is that an ARM’s rate can change later, which means the lower initial rate may come with more uncertainty down the road.

Before deciding on a mortgage, consider how long you expect to stay in the home, what a future payment increase could mean for your cash flow, and whether your budget has enough flexibility if rates move higher.

A lower starting rate may help with affordability today, but buyers also need to understand what that payment could look like later.

Every mortgage payment you make is building something. Do you know what?

Most people think about buying a home as a lifestyle decision. And it is. But it's also one of the most powerful wealth building tools available.

Every payment builds equity. Every year adds appreciation. And then there are the tax advantages. Mortgage interest deductions. Home equity loan interest on improvements. Benefits that quietly add up year after year and make the true cost of homeownership lower than most people realize.

Like any financial decision, the timing and the numbers matter. Too much of your net worth tied up in a single asset creates risk. Buying at a price that strains your cash flow can set you back instead of moving you forward.

Homeownership works best when it fits into the bigger picture. How equity can be leveraged when the time is right. How it connects to retirement, an estate plan and long term goals.

A home is more than a place to live. For many people it's one of the cornerstones of their financial future. The question is whether you're treating it that way.

Ready to understand how homeownership fits into your bigger financial picture? Let's talk.

There is always something to worry about when investing. That is part of the journey.

The market keeps moving forward even when the news feels heavy or uncertain.
Staying focused on your long term plan matters more than reacting to every headline.

Behind every strong financial plan is someone helping you see the full picture — clearly, calmly, and without pressure.

A financial advisor doesn’t just “manage money.” We:
✅ Help you identify your goals
✅ Create a strategy that adapts as life shifts
✅ Explain your options in ways that make sense
✅ Guide you through key decisions over time

The goal? To help you make confident, informed choices that align with the life you want to build.

Life changes — and so should your plan.

Here are a few signs it might be time to take another look:
• Your life or income has changed
• Your goals feel unclear
• You’re saving, but not sure what for
• Your plan hasn’t been updated in years

Financial planning isn’t about perfection; it’s about staying aligned with what matters most.
It’s not about starting over — it’s about staying on track with what matters most.

What does a financial advisor actually do?

For me, it’s not about cookie-cutter answers or one-size-fits-all “plans.”
It’s about:
✔️ Helping clients open the right accounts for their goals (retirement, investments, education, legacy)
✔️ Guiding decisions around insurance, healthcare, and long-term planning
✔️ Serving as a steady point of contact — not a 1-800 number

Every client’s story is different. That’s what keeps this work meaningful.
The goal isn’t to fit you into a box. It’s to help you find solutions that feel right for your life.

Why did I start Higher Ground Financial?
Because I wanted to serve clients in a way that fit their learning style — not just what was “standard” in the industry.

The name comes from two places:
✨ A mission — helping people move to higher ground, one step at a time.
✨ An experience — a four-day survival hike in the Himalayas that taught me how to reassess, adapt, and keep moving forward when life changes course.

That’s the same approach I bring to financial guidance today: practical, adaptive, and always centered on the person in front of me.
