Adding a teen driver? Don’t just add them and accept the new premium.
A new driver — especially when you’re adding another vehicle too — can completely change the cost of an auto policy.
I dealt with exactly this situation this week. The easy answer would have been to add the driver to the existing policy and move on.
Instead, I reviewed the whole insurance picture.
By looking at the home and auto together, available discounts, driving programs and the actual coverage being provided, we were able to offset a meaningful part of the increase without cutting coverage just to make the price look better.
That’s the part people sometimes miss.
Insurance isn’t just about finding a cheaper number. It’s about knowing where to look when something changes.
If you have a son or daughter getting licensed soon, have your insurance reviewed before automatically adding them to your current policy.
It’s not just insurance… it’s who you know.
