The core building blocks of your estate plan are more straightforward than most people expect, and putting them in place early can save loved ones from unnecessary stress, delays, and expense down the road. Here are the 3 key documents to put in place:

1. Will
2. Power of Attorney
3. Healthcare Directive

Together these basic documents help families avoid delays, confusion, and unnecessary costs down the road, giving clarity when it matters most and ensuring wishes are actually carried out.

What's on the radar as the fourth quarter gets underway?

Three things are shaping our outlook: Whether geopolitical tensions ease or escalate, whether inflation keeps trending in the right direction, and whether consumer spending and corporate earnings stay strong enough to support growth.

Some volatility along the way is expected, and markets are already starting to look ahead to 2027. For long-term investors, the plan matters more than the headlines.

It's important to keep Pennsylvania’s 3.07% flat tax in mind when planning your investments. It may influence how you think about structuring and managing taxable income over time.

Regularly reviewing your tax-efficient strategy can help you adjust for life changes or tax law shifts, supporting a plan that stays responsive to your circumstances.

Non-qualified deferred compensation isn’t just a bigger 401(k).

While it can help high earners delay income taxes, the money stays on your employer’s balance sheet and is subject to company risk. Add in strict payout rules, payroll tax timing, and concentration risk, and this becomes a decision that requires careful planning, not just tax math.

Handled correctly, deferred comp can be powerful. Handled casually, it can create real risk.

Most people treat their HSA like a checking account, but the truth is it is actually the most tax-efficient account they own.

It's the only account with a triple tax advantage: contributions are tax deductible, the balance grows tax free, and qualified withdrawals come out tax free. A traditional retirement account gives you one end of that and a Roth gives you the other. But an HSA gives you both.

Left invested instead of spent, it becomes a long-term healthcare reserve for the years when medical costs are highest. And there's no deadline on reimbursement, so a receipt saved today can mean a tax-free withdrawal years down the road.

Have you thought about investing your HSA instead of spending it each year?

Inflation slowly reduces your spending power especially over long periods. Even modest inflation can make everyday costs, healthcare needs, and education expenses grow far faster than expected. Without planning for rising costs, your retirement lifestyle may fall short of what you intend.

Here are 3 tips to help your portfolio keep up with long-term price increases:
1. Use assets with long-term growth potential
2. Build a cushion for unexpected price jumps
3. Review spending needs regularly

Should you always max out your 401(k)?

Not necessarily.

Retirement savings are important, but not if they're coming at the expense of an emergency fund, high-interest debt, or other major financial goals. The order of operations matters.

Start by capturing your employer match, build a solid financial foundation, then increase retirement contributions as part of a broader plan.

What are the key differences between Term and Whole Life Insurance?

Term Life Insurance:
✔️ You can choose to pay for life insurance for a year or up to 30 years
✔️ There's no cash value but it's typically low cost
✔️ Can be good for if you're starting out and building up your nest egg

Whole Life Insurance
✔️ Pay over the course of your life
✔️ More expensive but has cash value
✔️ Very helpful for tax planning and estate planning

Insurance isn't just a policy; it's peace of mind for you and your loved ones. Knowing the ins and outs can make all the difference in your planning.

Emotional decisions and money do not mix. The goal is not to automatically buy, sell, or hold, it is to be intentional.

Too many people sit on company stock simply because they never made a decision about it in the first place.

Look at the numbers and understand your options. Make a clear, informed choice that aligns with your goals.

No plan is still a decision, just not an intentional one.
