It’s been forever since I’ve posted. A client asked me for some information about ways to update their home to make it more “Age in Place” compliant. So: City of Austin has a program that can help with this! https://www.austintexas.gov/department/architectural-barrier-removal

If you’re in City of Austin city limits and need help with a wheelchair ramp or widening doorways or updating a bathroom to make it more wheelchair accessible check it out. Base income is around $61,800 look at their eligibility requirevents to get more info.

Helping to make homes accessible for persons with disabilities & senior Austinites Architectural barriers are physical elements of a home that can make it difficult to easily enter, leave or move around your home. Eligible homeowners and renters can receive up to $20,000 for improvements.

Just FYI my mother in law passed away recently. I’m amazed and amused to find out some of the mutual connections we had that I was unaware of.

If you knew Matye please keep our family in your prayers.

I’ve been hearing about layoffs at United. If you’ve got friends there, share this with them.

I have an favor to ask.
I need an introduction to social workers involved with dialysis and renal failure (kidney problems). I would also like an introduction to someone who is actually going through dialysis. ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) is a very specialized area of healthcare. I want to understand more about this and the best way for me to learn is talk to people involved with it.

If you know some friendly people who would be willing to educate me a bit so I can do a better job, have them call me? 512-375-0540.

Thanks!

PS - I want to be super clear this is 100% "teach me" - I'm not selling, I'm learning.

I think recognizing people is important. Joshua Wilson just came through in a big way for me. One of my earliest clients (who I am quite fond of) is in the hospital. They don't have a power of attorney and those tend to be pretty important when decisions need to be made about treatment and someone is potentially incapacitated.

With everything going on, Josh was able to get a power of attorney document done for them lickity-split and I want people to know how much I appreciate his commitment to helping people, both as an attorney and a member of Rotary Club of Pflugerville.

If you need a will, power of attorney, or estate/probate work done, it's definitely worth talking with Josh. 512-920-0318.

Regardless of your age, if you don't have at least a simple will, some kind of medical directives about things you do or don't want done, and at least a $5000 life policy to cover basic funeral expenses, it's probably worth spending some time getting those affairs in order.

Use the link https://calendly.com/silverkeytx/call and I'll point you in the right directions.

hey! We should talk! When is good for you? You can see my calendar availability so pick a time that works for you.

Pflugerville Farmer’s market is open tomorrow (5/19/20) from 3-7. Just had a conversation with Eddie Garcia with the city and he might have mentioned they will have Fredericksburg peaches...

They are primarily focused on grocery items (no craft vendors to speak of).

Come out and get some fresh produce!

Eagle Scout projects don’t stop because of COVID. Eron Jewett is hard at work along with his brother Evan (who is already an Eagle Scout). I’m along for technical expertise, a couple of tools, and the fun of helping out with another Eagle Scout project.

Portability - If you have life insurance through work and you are losing those benefits, ask HR if the life insurance is portable. If it is, you can continue to pay for it yourself and you are not without coverage. This is particularly important for people with pre-existing health concerns.

If you want to discuss any aspects of benefits (life insurance, health insurance, etc) and what your options are right now, feel free to give me a call at 512-375-0540.

I will help you evaluate all your options (coverage through spouse, etc) at no cost. I really don't want to see people getting hurt or losing benefits that protect their families.

I made a prediction when the COVID outbreak started and part 1 just came true. I just got the first underwriting update for a life insurance carrier saying that going forward they will require a statement of health for all new life apps. Basically if gets a new life insurance policy and then dies of an illness, the carrier probably won't pay that policy. I agree with the philosophy, but there will be people who get caught short or have claims that get denied because they didn't get the policy in place in time.

Nutshell: Medicare should cover COVID-19 testing with no copay/out of pockets under Part D drug plans or Medicare Advantage.
Opinion: Implementation may be rocky, but keep receipts if you have to pay and ultimately you should be reimbursed.

Please share this post! The medicare population needs to know that testing should not cost them!

Agency provides flexibility to Medicare Advantage and Part D plans to waive unnecessary barriers that could prevent access to care
