💰 Escambia County has temporarily waived fees for repairs related to Hurricane Isaias damages, which includes application and inspection fees for permits, land use approvals, and development orders necessary for Hurricane Isaias disaster recovery.

✅ The Board of County Commissioners waived the fees for the public through an Emergency Order, recognizing that the ongoing economic effects of Hurricane Isaias create uncertainty for the personal and business interests of the citizens of Escambia County.

❗Note: The Emergency Order only applies to permit and inspection fees related to Hurricane Isaias damage. Permits are still required as usual, and the Emergency Order does not change any other permitting procedures and requirements.

Our thoughts are with our community as we begin to recover from Hurricane Isaias. We know many families and businesses have been significantly impacted, and we hope you and your loved ones have stayed safe and experienced as little damage as possible.

With Isaias heading our way, take a few minutes now to get your insurance information together. When the wind is howling and you're dealing with damage, the last thing you want to do is hunt for policy numbers and phone numbers.

Here are a few things we recommend:

📋 Have your policy information handy
Keep your policy number(s) somewhere easy to access—both digitally and on paper if possible.

📞 Save these phone numbers
- Your insurance agency's phone number (Ours is 850-438-9169)
- Your insurance carrier's claims number
- Your mortgage company's number, if applicable
- Emergency services and local authorities

📸 Document your property now
Take photos or video of your home, roof, vehicles, belongings and other important property before the storm arrives. Having "before" pictures can be extremely helpful when documenting damage afterward.

🛡️ After the storm, put safety first
Don't put yourself in danger trying to inspect damage. Watch for downed power lines, unstable structures, flooding and other hazards.

📷 Document the damage before cleaning up
Take plenty of photos and videos. Get wide shots showing the overall damage as well as close-ups of individual items and areas.

🧰 Prevent further damage when it's safe to do so
If you can safely take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage—such as covering a broken window or placing a tarp over a damaged area—do so. Keep your receipts for materials, temporary repairs and other storm-related expenses.

🚫 Don't make permanent repairs before speaking with your insurance company
Emergency mitigation may be necessary, but whenever possible, give your carrier an opportunity to inspect the damage before major repairs or disposal of damaged property.

📞 Report your claim promptly
Contact your insurance carrier or your insurance agent as soon as reasonably possible. Your agent can help point you in the right direction and help you understand the claims process.

📄 Keep copies of everything
Save your claim number, adjuster's contact information, estimates, receipts, photographs and correspondence in one place.

And one of the most important tips:
Don't panic. Take pictures. Keep records. Ask questions.
