Today, we remember and celebrate not just to enjoy a long weekend or to welcome the beginning of summer, but to honor the deep and solemn purpose of Memorial Day — a day set aside to remember the men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country.
Their stories may differ — soldiers from distant wars and recent battles, young and old, from every background — but they share a common thread: a selfless commitment to a cause greater than themselves. Because of their sacrifice, we stand here free — free to speak, to worship, to pursue our dreams, and to live in a democracy.
Freedom has never been free. It has been paid for by the courage, honor, and sacrifice of those we remember today. Their lives remind us that patriotism is more than waving a flag — it is a deep responsibility to live with purpose, to serve others, and to protect the ideals they died defending.
Let us never forget them. Let us speak their names. Let us carry forward their legacy by building a nation worthy of their sacrifice — one that embraces unity over division, peace over conflict, and justice over complacency.
To the families of the fallen: we see you. We honor you. And we thank you. Your loss is our nation’s loss, and we hold it close in our hearts today and always.
May we leave here not just with remembrance, but with resolve — to live lives of gratitude, courage, and service. Because that is how we truly honor the fallen: not only in words, but in the lives we lead.
