Ask most wealthy families whose name actually sits on each part of their money, and the room goes quiet. Value they can quote in seconds. Title, far less often. That gap — the trust that was drafted but never funded, the account titled for convenience, the beneficiary nobody re-read — is the quietest hole in a family balance sheet. And the cheapest to close. A pension choice usually cannot be changed once the checks start. If the plan for the house assumed income the survivor will not have, it falls apart. Before the form goes in, ask if the lawyer and the accountant have talked.
