With wildfire season upon us, we want to remind everyone to take a few important steps to protect your home and belongings.

One of the most valuable things you can do is update your household inventory. Take clear photos and videos of every room in your home, including inside cupboards, drawers, closets, the garage, and storage areas. Be sure to capture valuable items such as electronics, jewelry, appliances, furniture, and collectibles. Upload this documentation to a secure cloud storage service or another off-site location so it remains accessible if your devices are damaged or lost.

We hope you never need to use this documentation, but in the event of a wildfire or other major loss, having a detailed inventory can make the insurance claims process much easier and help ensure you receive proper reimbursement.

Additional ways to prepare and protect yourself from wildfires include:

• Review your homeowners or renters insurance policy to make sure your coverage is current and adequate.
• Create an emergency evacuation plan and discuss it with everyone in your household.
• Pack a go-bag with essentials such as medications, important documents, chargers, water, and clothing.
• Sign up for local emergency alerts so you can receive evacuation notices quickly.
• Clear dry brush, leaves, and other flammable materials from around your home to create defensible space.
• Keep gutters, roofs, and vents clean to reduce fire risk from airborne embers.

Preparedness today can make all the difference tomorrow. Your home, your belongings, and your future are worth protecting.
