Day 5 of our wild rice harvest went well. It was our final day to get out and gather rice for this years effort. We ended up with 12 bags loaded in the pickup to bring to the processor. As they said in the Dumb and Dumber movie, “We did it Harry.” We had to call it a season because we ran out of Advil. Lol.
Both Brenda and I enjoy the wild rice harvest. It is really an adventure every time we go. We have different locations that we go where we see different kinds of wildlife. Other places we go that remind us of the first years that we started ricing. Some places where there are other ricers and other places where we are surprised to see another ricer. It’s one more reason to get out in nature and enjoy the outdoors. We will post one more time referencing this years wild rice harvest. It will show you how much finished rice we get from the 12 bags of unfinished rice. Thanks for watching. Lastly, come see us at the Park Rapids Farmers Market on Saturday. It opens at 9:00, ends at 1:00. It’s the last Market of the season.

Day 4 of our 2026 ricing season. What a perfect day. For the most part, it was cloudy, light wind, not too hot, just perfect. To go with the perfect weather, we were able to find our best pick of the season. We bagged the rest of the rice in the canoe and ended up with 3 1/2 bags of rice. Lastly, it was a very nice quality rice. Meaning it was a nice long kernel, and should parch out at a high percentage as the rice was nice and ripe, just trickling out of the plant as Brenda was pulling the plants over the canoe. One more ricing day left before we bring our rice into the processor, towards the end of the week. Thanks for checking in with us. Have a good week.

Hello…day 3 of our wild ricing season. Brenda and I went to the location where we had the 300 pound pick from 5 years back. We got there at 9:05 am, when we noticed a middle aged couple in a canoe, paddling towards our secret location. We didn’t want that, but that’s what happens when you’re a few minutes late. As we were unloading the canoe and getting ready, I could hear the lady, who was the person standing in the rear part of the canoe, with the push pole, trying to navigate through the tall wild rice. Poor lady was having some issues.
When Brenda and I entered the water, this couple were on there way back to the landing. They had given up. We met them, passing just a few feet away. Brenda said good morning, they said the same. They were both smoking a cigarette, they said, you better turn around, you can’t get through there. The bog has it all jammed up. It’s not safe. We wished them well, and continued on.
We made it through, all the way to the secret spot. The rice was golden, ready to fall. We had a good day. We were exhausted, but it always feels like you accomplished something. It also reminds us of jogging, it feels good when you’re done. lol. Thanks for checking in with us, have a good day.

Hello everyone, this post is for the jelly connoisseurs. Brenda and I think we have taken our jelly production, to the next level. We decided to add rhubarb to our raspberry jelly, and also our chokecherry jelly, just like my grandmother did, when I was a youngster. We have what we think the truly the most delicious jellies that we have ever made. We have 3 batches of raspberry rhubarb, and 3 batches of chokecherry rhubarb jelly, and they will be available at the Park Rapids Farmers Market on Saturday. Come see us, it starts at 9:00 and runs to 1:00. Thank you
