Hutt Insurance Agency, Inc.

Hutt Insurance Agency, Inc. We have been providing insurance to businesses and families all around Northwest Florida since 1961. Hutt Insurance Agency was founded by John Hutt, Sr. Like us.

and Jean Owens in 1961. Our first office, in downtown Panama City, FL, had no front window, and “Miss Jean” simply rolled down the blinds at the close of day. They knew everyone in town, and most business was conducted at the local gathering spot, the Seven Seas restaurant. Today, we have computers to replace typewriters, high-speed copiers to replace carbon paper, and fax and email to replace mos

t “snail mail.” While technology has certainly changed, our business philosophy has not. We still work to provide quality coverage, sound advice and personal attention to our clients, and we do so by having some of the finest, well-trained employees in the Southeast. Our folks know their stuff, and they work for you. The agency is run today by John Sr’s son, John Jr., and grandson, Trey. We still run this very much as a family business. While many family firms have sold out to banks or to “big corporate” firms, we still prefer the family approach. That way, we can focus on our employees and our clients rather than having to serve stockholders and board of directors. We don’t have to maintain a stock price. We write our share of large clients like banks, developers, and condo associations, but our focus continues to be on homes and small businesses. These are the people that have “kept the lights on” over the years, so we will always be focused on providing coverage for average families and small businesses. We also offer contractor insurance so unexpected events do not turn into financial disasters. Hutt Insurance Agency has been providing insurance to the Gulf Coast since 1961. We are a locally owned and operated company in Bay Country, Florida, as well as a family business that has been run by 3 generations of Hutts.

Bay County got a nice surprise from FEMA recently. The federal cost share for Public Assistance was raised from 75% to 90% of the total eligible recovery costs for Hurrican Michael. This will bring more federal recovery dollars to our community. Some assistance was already approved for 100% reimbursement, and that won't change. It's good news for our area, and my view on this is, well, better late than never. FEMA is under fire, of course, but just in the last 90 days, FEMA has written Florida checks for more than $1.2 billion.

Head's up to the realtors and lenders out there. This little storm we have out in the Gulf has already started shutting down binding.

Some insurers may not suspend business since there won't be much to it, but Citizens has already notified agents that no new policies can be written until the storm dissipates. So, loan closings will be held up for a few days.

I love good weather news, especially during hurricane season. I'm no Chris Smith, but it looks like we should have a quiet year. Now, that's not any excuse to not be ready in case we do geta hit, but maybe we can all breathe a little easier this summer and fall.

A potent El Niño is putting a damper on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, meteorologists from Colorado State University said in a forecast update.

Heads up on a new scam. This one mostly targets businesses, but individual folks are getting popped, too.

First, you get a text or email. It's someone that maybe wants to buy your services, see if you have that thing still for sale on FB marketplace, or whatever. They tell you that they can't talk on the phone for whatever reason, something like bad reception or they're deployed overseas or whatnot. They need a vidoe call via Zoom, or Teams, or some other platform. Sometimes, they'll try to connect this way (and have it fail) and sometimes not. They will then send you the link to join their video call, and BOOM. That link launches the malware and you're hosed.

Be careful out there . . . these dirtbags are getting better all the time, espeically when aided by AI. It's goo practice to NEVER click on a link that you don't verify on the phone with a trusted party, and that you delete any email or text that seems justa little bit "off" for any reason.

And, in the "blatant sales pitch" category, maybe consider buying a cyber insurance policy, or adding this coverage to your homeowner insurance policy if it's available. :)
