Ranchers in wolf territory are encouraged to participate in a free training, authorized by CDFW and administered by Wildlife Services, for the ability to use non-lethal projectiles (paint/powder projectiles) and pursuit to haze wolves interacting with livestock.

Trainings are occurring across Northeastern California and additional dates will be added as trainings are scheduled.

These trainings are free and offered for livestock producers, specifically those in wolf territory. Trainings are free and offered on a first come, first serve basis.

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Hayfork High School and Trinity County on the grand opening of their new student-run sawmill! What an incredible accomplishment and investment in the future of our rural communities.

As highlighted in recent discussions about California's forests, there continues to be a need for responsible forest management, including logging and thinning projects that help reduce wildfire risk. Through the hard work of local teachers, community members, and grant supporters, Hayfork High School has created a unique hands-on learning opportunity that will introduce students to careers in forestry, natural resources, and the wood products industry.

Projects like this not only provide valuable workforce training but also help ensure the next generation understands the importance of managing our forests. As one local leader noted, "Our forests don't stop growing." Neither should our efforts to educate and prepare future stewards of our natural resources.

Congratulations again to everyone who helped make this vision a reality. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on students and the community for years to come.

CONSUMER ALERT: Invasive Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter Found on Plants Shipped to California Costco Stores.

The Shasta County Agricultural Commissioner is urgently asking residents to take immediate action after invasive glassy-winged sharpshooters were detected on plant shipments delivered to Costco stores throughout California.

Residents who purchased grapevines or citrus plants from any Costco store since April 21, 2026, are strongly urged to follow the instructions below immediately to help prevent the spread of this destructive agricultural pest:

πŸ‡FOR GRAPEVINES (This does not include grapes purchased at Costco)
Place two garbage bags over plants and secure them tightly. Then, contact your county agricultural commissioner.

🍊FOR CITRUS PLANTS (This does not include citrus fruit purchased at Costco)
Contact the Agriculture Department immediately to schedule an inspection.

🚫Do not return, transport, relocate, share, or give away plants, and do not place plants in trash bins or compost containers.

πŸ“žContact the Shasta County Agriculture Department at
(530) 224-4949 or by email at [email protected] to schedule pickup of grapevines and/or inspection of citrus plants and receive guidance on preventing further spread of the glassy-winged sharpshooter.

β€œGlassy-winged sharpshooters pose a serious threat to vineyards, agriculture, and backyard plants throughout Shasta County and nearby areas,” said John Ingram, Shasta County Agricultural Commissioner. β€œThese insects spread the bacterium called Xylella fastidiosa that causes Pierce’s disease, which can kill grapevines and severely damage vineyards. We need the community’s help to prevent the spread. If you recently purchased grapevines or citrus plants from Costco, please contact the Agriculture Department immediately so we can safely contain and eliminate this threat.”
