In collaboration with the HBS Rock Center, , and many other campus organizations, we were thrilled to bring co-founder and CEO of .ai to Harvard. In an electrifying series of events. Aravind shared his journey from academia to the heights of the generative AI boom; was the guest judge at Xfund’s Xperiment Stake pitch competition; and met with fellow scholars at Harvard and MIT. Students found him an inspiring figure: started only in 2022, Perplexity today handles over 600m monthly queries to serve the world’s unbounded curiosity. He has transmuted the rigor of academia into one of the world’s most captivating companies.

Harvard Business School just posted this video of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at our Experiment Assembly 2024. Patrick was Sam’s very first investor, and he presented Sam with the first pitch deck Sam ever gave at age 19. They had fun tracing Sam’s origin story, and the future, in a packed event at Harvard University co-hosted by Harvard Business School and the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Xfund partners Brandon Farwell, Tuan Ho, Jadyn Bryden, and Nim Ravid (with the incredible organizational skill of Alyssa Krejmas) conceived of and pulled together one of the largest events in recent Harvard memory, attracting almost 5,000 RSVPs.

Xfund was proud to welcome Sam Altman, CEO and co-founder of OpenAI, to Harvard University on May 1. Sam engaged in a fun and probing conversation with his first investor, Xfund’s Patrick Chung, and was awarded the 2024 Experiment Cup by Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Dean David Parkes. The event was co-hosted by the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Harvard Business School and attracted over 4,600 RSVPs: about 1,000 students packed Harvard Memorial Church, with video simulcast locations across Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
