A lot of nurses I talk to are making more than they ever have, but still don’t feel confident with their money.

Reviewing things, nothing usually jumps out as broken.

Income and benefits are solid, starting to save more.

The uncertainty tends to show when I ask:

What are you building toward right now?
Do you know what “on track” looks and feels like for you?
What would need to change if your income stopped or slowed for a bit?

Many people don’t have clear answers to at least one of those.

If any of this feels familiar, message me “chat” and I’ll set up a quick 15-20 min call with you.

This past weekend I did the pond skim at Montage Mountain.

When I got to the top, there was almost no water left.
They said just go, so I went for it.

A crevice had formed in the snow where the water leaked out. Easy to miss, but the kind of trap that could have ended badly for me.

I’m thankful my left ski stopped me, and for ski patrol’s help getting out safely.

Moments like that are when liquidity matters most.

A lot of financial plans look good on paper, but the real test is whether you are prepared and can access your money when life throws something unexpected your way.

Most financial conversations happen around change.

Not because of the market. Because of life.

Lately, several calls have started with a job change or another life shift.

It often comes down to benefits, retirement, and what to prioritize.

These are not crises. They are decisions that carry long term impact.

What are you navigating right now?

If you want a second perspective on a decision, let’s talk.

Many young professionals I talk with are comfortable not owning a home anytime soon. Some need flexibility for their career. Others travel, relocate often, or simply prefer renting.

One of the most common reactions I hear is something like, "Is that even realistic right now?"

The reality is that everyone's life, career path, and financial situation is different. There is no universal right answer to this, and most people aren't looking to be told what they should do.

My goal is simple. Provide education and resources so people can make informed decisions that fit their own situation, without judgement or pressure.

The linked article by Ameritas covers some considerations around buying or refinancing a home.

Buying or refinancing a home can be a confusing process. These tips help borrowers navigate the mortgage market.

Santa Says: Putting all the presents in one gift sack can be risky. Sleigh turbulence could cause Santa a significant loss.

Now imagine Santa's nest egg is only invested in one business segment, or investment type. If that segment struggles, his overall portfolio could be affected.

Diversification is a commonly discussed approach to help manage this type of risk. It does not prevent losses or guarantee gains, but it can reduce the impact of any single investment's performance on a portfolio.

Food for thought: Different categories of investments respond to changing economic and political conditions in different ways according to FINRA.

Santa is not a real client. This post is for general educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice, or consider individual circumstances. There is no guarantee that a diversified portfolio will enhance overall returns or outperform a non-diversified portfolio. Diversification does not protect against market risk.

What does retirement mean to you?

Some folks find their careers deeply fulfilling. Others, not so much, and that is perfectly okay. Retirement is not just about leaving work, it can be an opportunity to create a truly fulfilling life.

My mentor once shared a simple question for those struggling to visualize life's next stage:

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

We've heard this since Kindergarten, but it can be a helpful way to reflect on what matters most beyond work and bring planning to life.

Check out the 90 second video by Ameritas discussing common retirement ideas to learn more.

To me, financial planning isn’t just about numbers.

A good plan puts structure around what can be controlled, helping people make intentional decisions about what matters most, like saving for a home, changing jobs, or preparing to retire.

The planning process can help turn numbers into insight and provide perspective on steps that have the potential to move toward meaningful goals.

Not sure where to start? I share educational resources designed to help make planning more approachable.

What's on my Desk?

Earlier this year I made a small gift to help pay down the Public Debt. When the thank you email arrived, and I knew it had to be framed for my less decorated desk in Palmyra.

People ask why it's here all the time. For me, it's a reminder that this might be the only time I'll get a "thank you" for sending extra money to the government.

As the year comes to a close, it's a good time to review and plan for the upcoming tax season.

Planning isn't about avoiding taxes or chasing loopholes. It's about staying aware of changes in life and in tax law, and making informed decisions along the way.

P.S. If anyone wishes to reduce the Public Debt, make sure to use the official .GOV site.

What do life milestones have to do with financial wellness? The answer might be more than you expect.

Getting married, welcoming a child, or changing jobs can change much more than your daily routine.

These events can reshape your entire financial picture, and are a great time to revisit your financial plan to ensure it still aligns with who you are, not just the version of you from 5 years ago.

Have you recently hit a life milestone or are you approaching one?
I'd love to hear how you're thinking about your financial plan.

Below are some dates close to my heart that connect to my own financial wellness journey.
