I continually hear two different points of view when markets get close to or are at all-time highs. The first thing I hear (probably most often) is "what goes up must come down". Yes, that is generally true but remember not everything falls at the same pace. The flip side of this is "since things are going up, we should be more aggressive". This too is a flawed argument. I have people coming to me all the time for account reviews that are overweight stocks because they were chasing returns. Portfolio construction and income planning are not one size fits all. If we can determine the proper portfolio allocation for each client individually, then when can help clients stay invested in up and down markets. This article does a great job addressing the “market at all-time high” concern people have.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is an index of 30 very-large, blue-chip U.S. companies. Most people are not really aware of what FDIC is and how it protects people's money. The quick collapse of SVB last week provides us a great opportunity to take a second and educate ourselves about this critical backstop the government provides to banking system here in the US.

The FDIC-seizure of Silicon Valley Bank is the second-largest US bank failure in history as it held $209 billion in assets at the time of its collapse. Even after adjusting for inflation, by assets it trails only Washington Mutual, which held $434 billion in assets when it failed in 2008.
