Even though it’s Columbus Day (a federal holiday), the stock market is open because the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq do not observe it as an official trading holiday.

Here’s what that means:
‣Normal trading hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET
‣Bond market closed: U.S. bonds are closed for the holiday, even while stocks trade
‣Different holiday schedules: Federal holidays don’t always match market holidays

Florida is one of the most estate-tax-friendly states: there’s no Florida state estate tax or inheritance tax.

But here’s the catch: out-of-state rules can still impact what your family receives if you have ties outside Florida. Your inheritance may be affected if you:

→Own property in another state (a second home, land, or other tangible assets)
→Have multi-state residency ties (or a loved one lived in a state with its own estate tax)
→Have a very large estate where federal estate tax could apply (2026 exemption: $15M per person / $30M per married couple)
