While a deductible is important when shopping, the more important number is the Maximum Out of Pocket as that is the total financial risk you face in a one year policy in the event of a health emergency. Copays that are standardized can also make your costs more predictable than policies that leave you paying all the costs until you meet a high deductible or max out of pocket. These are things I find confuse customers that have shopped alone and found themselves in costly situations. Let me help you navigate the options.

ACA Marketplace plans are going to be offering a better benefit this year with far more cost controls with copays assigned to more services. As you're making your retirement plans, keep in mind that Medicare will cost you $164.90/month in 2023 and $179.80/month in 2024. Many think that paying into Medicare all their lives means that it is a "free" benefit at age 65. And if you don't have enough work quarters to qualify, you will pay much more, so those lifetime "under the table" folks hopefully kept it under the mattress actually!

Health Insurance Scam: I recently had two customers fall into a terrible mess when they trusted a Facebook & YouTube ad that said they could call and see if they qualified for lower cost health insurance plus help with the cost of utilities and food. When they called they didn't realize the scammer was submitting a Medicaid application for people they know won't qualify. With the Medicaid denial letter, a special enrollment period opened with Obamacare and the agents enrolled them in plans with Ambetter. When they were notified that their plans had been changed and saw what had happened, they called me. Neither person could tell me who the agents were or how to get back in touch with them. Fraud reports had to be placed with the Marketplace. Both are resolved after hours on the phone. The agent license numbers were both obtained from the applications and are being submitted for an investigation. Both agents are located in South Florida. Some medical providers may request that you "just get Original Medicare" but they don't also tell you that: There’s no yearly limit on what you pay out of pocket, unless you have supplemental coverage. Under Original Medicare you are required to pay 20% of the bill while Medicare pays 80%. This is why selecting the right supplement or advantage plan is very important for your financial protection.

Enrollment remains open through to August to enroll in health insurance this year due to COVID. Subsidies were also recently increased to help more people afford health insurance. Pre-existing conditions do but pay a price penalty so don't hesitate. Contact me if you would like a quote.
