The Signet Showdown is more than just a competition—it’s a hands-on experience that brings together talented students from West Kentucky Community & Technical College and local industry leaders across Western Kentucky.

From welding and HVAC, to construction & more, students get the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned in front of the very businesses and employers who are actively looking for the next generation of skilled workers. In many ways, it gives companies a front-row seat to tomorrow’s workforce—seeing future hires in action, watching problem-solving skills firsthand, and connecting with students before they even enter the workforce.

It’s fun, competitive, and rooted in something much bigger: supporting the trades, strengthening our local workforce, and building opportunities right here in Western Kentucky. Because the future of our industries starts with investing in the people willing to build it.

These students are helping build the future of Western Kentucky. 🔧⚡🏗️

This year, Signet Federal Credit Union and the AGC of Western Kentucky proudly awarded 14 graduating seniors across Western Kentucky with the inaugural Trade Excellence Award — recognizing students who demonstrate outstanding skill, work ethic, leadership, and readiness to enter the workforce.

Each recipient received a $250 scholarship, fully funded by Signet, to honor students pursuing careers in welding, construction, automotive, electrical, and other technical career fields.

Out of 14 participating high schools across the 11 counties Signet serves, the following students were named the Top 5 technical students in the region:

🔹 Dawson Thompson — Livingston Central High School
🔹 Ayden Bagwell — Graves County High School
🔹 Ulises Mateo — Mayfield High School (not pictured)
🔹 Brian Shaffer — McCracken County High School
🔹 Jake Trevathan — Carlisle County High School

These students were selected in collaboration with Career & Technical Education instructors and AGC industry professionals based on craftsmanship, leadership, reliability, and overall job readiness. The Top 5 students also received custom Signet + AGC “Trade Excellence” graduation stoles presented during their senior recognition ceremonies.

“For too long, success has been defined in one direction,” said Amy Mills, HR Assistant at Signet Federal Credit Union. “This partnership allows us to stand beside students who are choosing to work with their hands, build their futures, and strengthen our communities.”

“This is more than an award — it’s a shift in perspective,” said Joel Crider of AGC of Western Kentucky. “Choosing a trade is not a second option. It is a strong, respected, and essential path forward.”

Because success does not follow one path.
And these students deserve to be celebrated for the one they chose. ❤️
