UPDATE: If you are affected by recent law changes concerning Social Security benefits for public employees, you may see a deposit in your account within the next few weeks. The Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset have both been backdated to January of 2024, and the Social Security Administration plans to send out all retroactive payments by the end of March. If you see or have seen an unexpected deposit, this may be the source. As always, if you have questions or concerns about policy change and how it may affect your financial future, feel free to reach out to one of our advisors.
New law changes may have an impact on Social Security benefits for more than 2 million Americans, including many residents of Oxford and the surrounding community. The Social Security Fairness Act was signed into law last week in an effort to increase Social Security benefits for government employees by repealing the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), and Government Pension Offset (GPO). While the extent of the impact that this new law will have remains to be seen, and will vary from person to person, government employees, including teachers, may see a change in their Social Security benefits.
Keep an eye out for updates- we’ll be posting as we learn more.
