It's Life Insurance Awareness Month!

LIMRA’s 2026 Insurance Barometer Study shows that reported life insurance ownership varies across generations and demographic groups. Gen X leads the generations at 58%, while Gen Z adults report the lowest ownership at 43%.

The numbers remind us that life insurance needs can look different at every age and stage of life. Whether you’re starting a career, raising a family, paying a mortgage, or preparing for retirement, it may be worth asking: Do I have the right coverage for where I am today?

With childcare ending after the county fair, Jess had the great idea to fill some of our extra time with volunteering. It was probably a better use of a day than letting the girls run wild through the neighborhood or rack up a little too much screen time while Mom and Dad tried to work!

Our family spent some time volunteering at Community Pathways in Owatonna yesterday, sorting donations and hanging clothes. Were there a few annoyed children along the way? Absolutely. 😂 But Jess and I are hoping experiences like this help plant the seeds of something important: giving back, helping others, and being part of your community.

Community Pathways provides food, clothing, and household items to individuals and families in our community who need a little extra help. It was amazing to see how many donations came through the doors just during the time we were there. We’re fortunate to live in a community where so many people are willing to give.

And a big shoutout to the regular volunteers and leadership at Community Pathways. They were incredibly welcoming and helpful as they put our family to work!

Family fun at the Steele County Free Fair!

My family attended our first rodeo, and it won’t be our last. We made lots of family memories at the SCFF, thanks to the staff, vendors, and volunteers who worked all year to put on a great event!

Earlier this week, I participated in Golf for Kids’ Sake, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota. It was a fun day connecting with others in support of a great organization.

BBBS is continually looking for ‘Bigs,’ and if you're looking to invest more time with our youth, I encourage you to look into becoming a ‘Big' - it's something I enjoy and have found to be a rewarding way to give back.

Workplace benefits are among the most important conversations you can have with employees. These discussions could lead to higher job retention, higher job satisfaction, and healthier employees.

Don't save these great conversations for just one time a year — share about your employee benefit offerings year-round to keep them top of mind.

In early July, I became the next president of the Owatonna Early Edition Rotary Club. I'm honored to be a part of this group of amazing members. Our Club theme for this year is ‘Family, Fun & Getting Things Done!’ and we have great work planned for the year.

If you're looking for an organization to join, I would highly recommend Rotary. It's an opportunity to surround yourself with good, like-minded people working together to make our communities and world a better place.

AI is changing almost every profession, including financial advising.

But here's the thing...

AI can answer questions, but it doesn't know your whole story.

It doesn't know why you worry about retirement, what values shaped your financial decisions, or how your family dynamics influence the choices you're making today.

Financial advising has never been just about numbers for me. What I value most when I meet with my clients is the conversations, the trust, and genuinely helping people make confident decisions during some of the biggest moments of their lives.

When your kids leave home, your financial priorities change.

The insurance coverage that made sense while you were raising a family may no longer be the coverage you need today. At the same time, new considerations begin to take center stage, such as protecting your retirement savings, planning for health care costs, long-term care, and the legacy you want to leave behind.

An empty nest is a good time to revisit your insurance strategy and make sure it still aligns with your life today.
