Florida’s land story is older than most people realize.

Spanish ranchers were running cattle on Florida’s prairies before Texas ranching even began — making Florida home to one of the oldest cattle industries in the continental United States.

By the late 1800s, the citrus belt was in full bloom. The freezes of the 1890s — and again in the 1980s — reshaped the landscape and the families who worked it.

At MoonBeam, this history isn’t abstract. Our family farmed citrus for over 100 years. We know what it means when the land changes.

MoonBeam isn’t just a name, it’s a story that began long before our brokerage did.

The name “MoonBeam” was inspired by a Florida citrus label from the 1920s, one that represented hard work, family, and the land that sustained generations.

My family came to Florida over 200 years ago. By the 1880s, they had settled in Oviedo, where my Great Grandfather, B.F. Wheeler built something remarkable. At its height, his operation spanned 3,000 acres of citrus across Florida. B.F. Wheeler created several labels for his companies, but one has always stood out to me: MOONBEAM.

As a boy, I was captivated by the artistry and the name itself. There was something timeless about it — classic, evocative, and unmistakably Floridian. That admiration has never faded.

When I founded this company in late 2022, the name was never in question. Long before land brokerage became our profession, land stewardship was our way of life. Those experiences shaped how we view land — not just as an asset, but as a responsibility.

This isn’t just business for us. It’s in our blood.

Nelson and Co., was founded in 1886. Incorporated in 1924. Over the last 138 years we have been proud to honor the many veterans who worked at Nelson and Co. Thank you to all the veterans who have served our country. Thank you, City of Oviedo for hosting this tribute on 11/11.

Come join us on Nov. 11 at 5pm at Oviedo on the Park's Veteran Tribute. The Oviedo Memorial Legion Post 243 will be honoring all military veterans whom have served in the United States Armed Forces and unveiling the newly added veterans to the tribute.
