Nothing prepares us for this. For caregiving, for the role reversal, for the legal and financial aftermath of settling their affairs and finding homes for their things.

⛔ Not all professionals will advise you well on topics adjacent to their own.
A Financial Coach called me asking for a quote for her 90-year-old father for Long Term Care Insurance. He's terminally ill and they are finding his care is too much for the family to handle alone.

She helps people budget and get out of debt, but she is NOT an insurance expert. She told me she learned something new... that you can't get Long Term Care Insurance WHILE NEEDING Long Term Care.

Be careful whose advice you heed; when in doubt, go straight to an expert.

Reality: Good health is exactly what makes this the right time.

We don't know who will outlive the other, so it's best to act as if it will be you!

❓What can you do to make caregiving easier on yourself?
❓What can you do to ensure you'll have enough income once you are alone?

Always nice to have your employer provide you with a free baseline of coverage.
1X your salary. Maybe even 2X your salary! But don't make the mistake of thinking that's enough. If you have a spouse, children, a mortgage or a lot of debt, you probably need more like 8X to 14X your annual income in Life Insurance.

Have the opportunity to buy more coverage through work?
If you are healthy, you are likely paying more than you have to, because group rates with guaranteed coverage mean you are essentially helping subsidize your less healthy colleagues. Why pay the same rate if you are healthier? And instead of rates that go up every five years, we could lock in your rates for 10, 15, 20, 25, possibly even 30 years. Those savings add up!
