Congratulations to the winner of the first annual Gold Medallion Scavenger Hunt, Eileen Garza! Eileen won $500 cash prize for following the clues and finding the hidden Medallion! Eileen is a 7th grader at MMS and has a heart of pure gold! She is planning to give a portion of her winnings back to the food bank to help other people! What a beautiful act of kindness to conclude KINDNESS WEEK by thinking of others with her reward! 😍
The Gold Medallion Hunt was held in memory of Kyle Lutey during Kindness Week to encourage families to get out and have some fun and make happy memories together. The clues were posted daily on the Smile 4 Kyle Foundation page and by following the clues, Eileen found the medallion after school on Tuesday, October 12th. The five clues were given one day at a time as follows:
Day One: “I am near everything, but next to nothing” Meaning - Kiwanis Park is in the center of town so it was near everything, but the picnic area where the medallion was found was not next to the playground, it is off by itself…next to nothing.
Day Two: “I hear bells”. Meaning - Lutacaga School Bell
Day Three: “If the cross is in sight, your path will be right”. Meaning - looking up from that area of the park you can see the cross from the Lutheran church.
Day Four: “You can look up down and all around, but somewhere near where I am hiding runs underground.” Meaning - the medallion was hidden behind the sink in that pavilion area.
Day Five: “Where the sidewalk ends the fun begins. At 2:45 this place comes alive.” Meaning: the side walk ends at the pavilion. Lutacaga gets out of school at 2:45 and school kids cut through the park walking home.
We plan to do this Gold Medallion Hunt next year, look for clues during The 4th annual Kindness Week in Othello!
