Congrats to the Winter Buc Boosters athletes! Marshall+Sterling

JV and Varsity Spring practices are underway, but we still have some Winter Athletes of the Month to honor. The Fitzgibbons Agency, a Division of Marshall+Sterling joins us in saluting a Buc bowler and skater.

Lauren Adkins was a new member of the Girls Varsity Bowling team and contributed significantly with her positive attitude, hard work and desire to improve. Lauren helped bring the team together and is a great role model for both new and returning bowlers.

Mason Nauman helped boys hockey get off to a hot start on the ice this winter. The senior center is both a force in the rink and in the classroom.

This week, owner, John FitzGibbons, spoke with the Oswego County Business Magazine, reflecting on the history of the FitzGibbons Agency, the legacy of his family and their impact on the Oswego and Onondaga communities, and the decision to pass the torch to Marshall+Sterling in their recent acquisition of the agency.

Mr. FitzGibbons stated “[Marshall+Sterling] very much have taken our success and had the ability to add to the success that we’ve achieved […] We are pretty broad in the services that we offer. They are even broader. So, things like employee benefits and services to larger employers it helps us with those aspects of business. Driving a few miles over the speed limit or crossing against a signal might not seem like a big deal at the time, but it could mean the difference between life or death for a pedestrian. Drivers and pedestrians must stay alert, lives depend on it! The Oswego Police Department will be continuing to deploy crosswalk enforcement details and tickets will be issued for those who violate pedestrian safety laws.

See the below tips from the NYSDOH - New York State Health Department:

⚠️ See! ⚠️

- YIELD for pedestrians in crosswalks and at intersections – it’s the law.

- Do not block crosswalks when stopping at intersections.

- Slow down and obey posted speed limits.

- Take extra care around schools, playgrounds, and neighborhoods.

- Always look out for pedestrians, especially before turning at a green light or making a “right turn on red.”

- Never run red lights.

- Be careful when passing stopped vehicles. They might be stopping for pedestrians.

- Pay attention! Do not text and drive!

- Share the road. It’s your responsibility to look for others.

⚠️ Be Seen! ⚠️

- Cross in marked crosswalks and at intersections.

- Use pedestrian pushbuttons and WAIT for signals to cross.

- Before crossing, look left, right, then left again, and over your shoulder for turning vehicles.

- Use sidewalks. If there are none, walk facing traffic so you see vehicles, and drivers see you.

- Pay attention! Don’t text while crossing!

- Make eye contact with drivers so they see you.

- Stay visible after dark and in bad weather with light-colored or reflective clothing.

- Don’t step suddenly in front of traffic. Buses and trucks take even longer to stop than other vehicles.

- Watch out for vehicles backing out of parking spaces and driveways.
