The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) launched a photo contest to celebrate the contributions of America’s farmers in growing America into the nation it is today. The contest is part of AFBF's FARM 250 initiative, marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. The photo contest runs through Sept. 9. Today is National Food Bank Day. This day highlights the critical work of food banks and encourages communities to act against hunger through volunteering, donating, or advocating for food security.

Jefferson County Farm Bureau Association has received an Ending Hunger Grant that matches our donation, and this year we are able to support nine Blessing Boxes along with one other resource in our county to help take action against hunger. We want to thank all the people and organizations who manage different Blessing Boxes, resources, and Food Banks around our county!

Have you Checked your First Aid Kit Recently?

As harvest and fieldwork activities continue across rural communities, experts urge agriculturists to inspect their first aid kits before the busiest seasons begin. Equipment-related injuries, cuts, burns, insect stings and other on-the-job incidents can occur without warning, making a fully stocked and readily accessible first aid kit an essential part of farm safety. Missing supplies or expired items can delay treatment and reduce the effectiveness of first aid measures when immediate care is needed.

We are accepting applications for two more weeks! You are eligible if you are a senior in FFA or 4-H and live in Jefferson County.

Calling all seniors in Jefferson County involved in FFA or 4-H!
Deadline to apply is in one month!

Jefferson County Farm Bureau is proud to announce our new program for high school seniors involved with FFA or 4-H. The program is called Ag Ambassadors. The students’ parents do not have to be Farm Bureau members, but if there is a tie in the selections, the Farm Bureau student has priority. Current seniors will be selected to participate during the 2026-2027 year.

The requirements are as follows:

1. The student applicants will be students in good standing in their school and their community. They must remain in good standing during the time they are with the Board.

2. Students must attend 75% of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau Board meetings and help with 75% of our Farm Bureau events and projects. If students cannot attend a meeting or activity, they must contact the county coordinator. Board meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Farm Bureau Financial Services office in Oskaloosa. Some of the projects in which the students are expected to assist include our County Annual Meeting, Watermelon Feed at Old Settlers Days, and various other ag educational activities held throughout the year that do not conflict with curricular activities.

3. Upon graduation and the declaration of continuing educational plans, Ag Ambassadors will receive a scholarship from Jefferson County Farm Bureau Association for $2,000. An Ambassadorship is a phenomenal activity to add to any college scholarship application.

4. Throughout the course of the program, ambassadors may receive clothing, meals, or other benefits related to the position.

District 1 Listening Post Date has been set!

District listening posts give members an opportunity to review and provide input on tentative resolutions. With input from members during the listening post meetings, the Resolutions Committee finalizes the tentative resolutions, which will be presented to the voting delegates during the KFB Annual Meeting.
