Lane closures on Iowa 9 in Osage begin on June 23
NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – June 12, 2025 – If you drive on Iowa 9 through Osage you need to be aware of an upcoming closure of the roadway that may slow down your trip.
Beginning on Monday, June 23, until early August, weather permitting, crews will be working on a concrete pavement replacement project from Kirkwood Avenue to 1st Street in Osage. The project will be completed in stages and Iowa 9 will be closed within the work zone.
During the pavement removal and storm sewer replacement portion of the project, you will not have access to entrances from Iowa 9 until a base layer of rock has been placed for the new roadway.
The contractor will be placing dumpsters on each end of the work zone for garbage collection. Residents and the postmaster will be notified prior to work beginning. The contractor will also be available to answer any questions about the project.
When Iowa 9 is closed through traffic will follow a marked detour route using Mitchell County Road T-26 and U.S. 218.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
