This August, UCU’s Community Engagement Manager in Machias, Ree Anna Bridges, had the opportunity to spend time with campers at UMaine Machias Black Bear Camp! 🐻

Black Bear Camp gives children ages 5–9 the opportunity to learn, explore, stay active, and have fun through a variety of themed summer camp experiences at UMaine Machias.

UCU is proud to support Black Bear Camp with a sponsorship check in support of its mission to provide meaningful summer experiences for local children. Throughout the month, Ree also joined the campers for financial literacy activities, using games and conversations to introduce important lessons about money, saving, and making smart financial choices. 💰

UCU is proud to invest in programs that help young people learn, grow, and build skills they can carry with them long after summer camp ends!

A new semester is here, and UCU is excited to welcome students back to campus! 🎉 We’re especially excited to meet the newest members of the University of Maine at Machias community and be part of the start of their college journey. 💙

This is Ree Anna Bridges, Branch Manager of the UCU branch on the UMaine Machias campus and Community Engagement Manager. She is excited to be meeting and welcoming new students to the UMM community! Ree is also a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC), so she’s a great resource for students with questions about managing their money throughout college!

Our campus branch, located in Powers Hall, is a convenient resource for UMM students. Whether they’re opening an account, learning more about their finances, or simply looking for a friendly face (like Ree!) to help point them in the right direction.

As we welcome students back to the UMaine campus, we’re excited to introduce you to one of the friendly faces you’ll find in the Memorial Union! Meet Eliza Wilcken, our Assistant Branch Manager at our branch in the Memorial Union.

Eliza loves working with college students and is passionate about helping them feel more confident when it comes to their finances. Whether you’re opening your first account, looking for tips on budgeting, have questions about financial literacy, or just want to learn more about managing your money while you’re in college, Eliza is here to help!

But what would a proper introduction be without getting to know Eliza beyond her role at UCU? 👀

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Scammers Are Impersonating the FBI

The FBI Boston Division is warning New England residents about a new scam in which criminals are spoofing the FBI’s real phone number to make their calls appear legitimate.

Here’s how the scam works:

📞 You receive a call from someone claiming to represent a financial institution. They tell you that your personal information was used to open an account that was then used to purchase illegal fi****ms.

🚔 You’re transferred to someone claiming to be an FBI agent, who may provide a fake name and badge number.

📱 You may then receive another call that appears to come from FBI Boston’s actual phone number and be instructed to continue communicating through an encrypted messaging app.

🔒 The scammer may also tell you that the situation is confidential and that you should not discuss it with anyone.

Don't fall for it. The FBI will never call or email you to demand payment, threaten arrest, request sensitive personal information, or ask you to communicate through an encrypted app.

At UCU, we’re here to help U recognize the red flags and protect your money. If you receive a suspicious call or message, stop and reach out to us directly. When in doubt, talk to your credit union before taking action.

The UCU team volunteered at MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children's Hospital yesterday to paint window murals in the pediatric wing! It is camp week, so we hope everyone will enjoy this fun camping inspired scene. 🐻🦝🦔🌲🌞🌙
